Can anyone with twins let me know what gifts you found useful or meaningful in the first few weeks? She is having a c section in a few days. It's their first babies and they think they have all the 'stuff' the need.
Thanks!

Sleep is the best gift. If you live near by can you offer to be on the end of the phone to take them out in the pram for an hour or so, so she can grab an hours sleep? Second best gift is time - by doing some housekeeping- laundry, dishes, vac over. Perhaps some home cooked frozen meals like lasagne or shepherds pie. She may not know for a couple of weeks until she gets her head round it all. I don’t think you’ll find many new twin mums not wanting to share a baby for cuddles as there’s plenty to go round

New mums gifts are fun.

I loved getting nice hand cream because my hands got sore from all the washing of them, magazines because I had no concentration for books, a takeaway voucher, nice cool jammies to wear for feeding at night, nice sweets or chocolates, nice coffee, that sort of thing.

SunshineRoo27 · 24/05/2024 15:28

We got given a just eats voucher which was probably the best gift we recieved

onefinalhurdle · 24/05/2024 15:35

I got brownies delivered through the letter box that was great!

CTW23 · 24/05/2024 16:15

Really helpful, thanks! Unfortunately we do t live nearby. The voucher idea is great though!

Some home cooked freezer meals and justeat vouchers were great. My lovely MIL did our laundry for 6 months.. that was an amazing gift!!

Donimo · 24/05/2024 22:19

Agree with meals either cooked or vouchers. Or otherwise an amazon voucher as there is always something you have forgotten to buy. And going to the shops with newborn twin's was virtually impossible. So amazon delivery was the way forward.

Best gift we got was a friend who asked us what brand and size of nappies we were using when DTs first came out of hospital and drove the 35min to the closest city to stock up on £50 worth of nappies for us. I have never forgotten that. DTS needed preemie sized nappies and went through so many of them, but none of the chemists in our local town sold them hence driving into the city. We had 2 other DCs and having a wee supply of nappies to save us a trip was invaluable. I appreciated that far more than the many (very cute) outfits we were given.

I also really appreciated that the friends cared more about what was genuinely useful for us, than picking out a nice gift that was more about them and their tastes - not that I didn’t appreciate the many other gifts we were given - but this one was truly selfless.

If you are planning to buy clothes - do check first whether they are planning to dress the DTs in matching outfits - we didn’t and the many matching outfits we received were given to one twin or the other which was totally fine by us, but a few people were really offended that we didn’t dress them in the matching outfits they had bought and it caused unnecessary stress.

box of large chocolates and a a gift voucher from GAP for kids clothing
they will need loads of clothing but best not to buy yourself but do as I recommend

Margauxdes · 25/05/2024 10:06

Definitely take away vouchers

TinyFlamingo · 29/05/2024 12:10

Buying sizes they'll grow in to post the typical baby phase...I had a sleep suit in all sizes from NB to 2 and was great!
Nappies in future sizes...
Swim nappies and nappy covers for this hot weather.

Nutmeg1204 · 29/05/2024 12:22

if they have all the stuff they need then takeaway vouchers, or some cash in a card saying grab a takeaway on me one evening! No one wants to cook with a new baby ….

or something nice for mum

PilgorTheGoat · 29/05/2024 12:25

Not flowers…. I didn’t have the time of energy to care for them as well as DTwins

Take away vouchers, COOK vouchers, prepared food…

Blanketison · 29/05/2024 12:27

Agree on the cook vouchers, loads of people brought us takeaways which was kind, but I wanted something ‘proper’ to eat!

Abbyant · 29/05/2024 12:38

Food vouchers for a delivery service or a bunch of batch cooked meals.
laundry service/ cleaning service.
lots of snacks
a big water bottle.

mrssunshinexxx · 29/05/2024 19:44

1000% food either cook a few meals and leave on door step , a lovely salad / fruit salad / homemade soup. Or cook vouchers ? X

maxandru · 31/05/2024 07:18

Mum of almost 3 day old twins here ❤️

I’d suggest a voucher but perhaps for Cook (or similar) - then they’ve got the option of more than fast foody sort of stuff. Also they can heat it when they’re ready and not at the mercy of delivery times!

or some batch cooked food, but put it in disposable containers so they don’t have to wash up and get tubs back to you

other option might be a bottle of wine…

maxandru · 31/05/2024 07:56

Oh also try to stick to sauces rather than full pasta dishes. I learned when I did the lasagne that it took up too much space. If you just do sauces then you can freeze smaller quantities but get the same amount of meals as you just do rice/pasta etc fresh

DevonorLondon · 28/09/2024 08:49

The best present we received was a huge oven tray of tuna pasta bake. I tend to give Morckk wraps: I really wish we had had these: would have made so much difference.
