Hi,

Expecting twins next year and need a buggy!

Looking for a side-by-side and needs to have ability to have a buggy board for my elder one (will be 3).

Also need to be able to have carrycots on when they're newborn and a huge basket!

Will use mainly for long walks/shopping/beach (pebble) and we do loads of walking! But also needs to fold up to fit in the car. Will never use with car seats on top.

Can anyone with experience let me know their thoughts on the following:

  • mountain buggy duet
  • out and about nipper
  • baby jogger city mini
  • bugaboo donkey
  • phil and teds

and recommendations for boards that fit on your preferred would be great!
Thanks

I've experience with the Mountain Buggy duet and it's fab. It will fit anywhere (it's as narrow as their single buggies or the Phil and Teds inline doubles). We live in a village with a tiny shop and I had no problem pushing it around in there and I've taken it on the bus loads without problems.
It's super-easy to push, has good carrycots, has decent raincovers that fit all combinations of carrycot / buggy, fits a buggy board (they used to do their own which also converted to a scooter for the toddler to use away from the buggy).
I used for baby / toddler combos rather than twins but I'm sure it's the same.

I've no experience with twins, but I do have opinions about long buggy walks off-road. Basically you want proper air-filled tyres for the beach, so I don't think the baby jogger city mini will work for you. The Donkey might be okay but I used to have a Bugaboo Cameleon and although it was manageable off-road, it was nowhere near as good as a proper all-terrain buggy.

I have young twins. Ime everyone ends up with either a Mountain Buggy or Out n About. I have the latter; it's indestructible. The Donkey is lovely but not easy to get in and out of car boots.

It has real tyres, get them slimed to avoid punctures.

And congratulations! Twins are hard hard hard work but wonderful.

THANK YOU all so much.
I've been doing more research and it really does come between those 2 prams doesn't it.
There is a shop near me which stocks both so will go and have a look and also need to measure the door of the new house to see which one will fit!

Will look into boards as well!

What's the deal with the tyres, what do you need to have done to them to stop them puncturing?

Mountain buggy 100%

You either get them slimed at a bike shop, or replace them with plastic tyres (which are less responsive/springy).

I have twins and a toddler and have the Cosatto WOW XL which has a built in buggy board but isn't side by side.

Twinsincoming23 · 09/08/2023 13:36

Thanks again
I've found a local pram shop that sells both mountain buggy and out n about so will be going to have a look and test them out!
Noted re the slime lol!

We have the single mountain buggy. If you buy the luxury version the tires are puncture proof. You can also just upgrade the tires. I don’t like how the carrycot/ parent facing seat clipped on though, it was awkward bracket and ours snapped once ( although mountain buggy did send replacement- it was 3 weeks without useable pram)

The babyjogger gt double also is worth looking at. Has nice compact fold.

The bugaboo donkey has the best buggy board though.

We have the bugaboo donkey with the bugaboo buggy board and seat on it for my eldest. And love it. It is wide but there hasn't been many places I can't take it. But as you can use it in single mode I do occasionally when I know space will be difficult use it in single mode and sling one of the twins. Or when they were tiny put both twins in 1 carrycot (as there is a lot of space in there and my girls were quite small).

We have taken it everywhere and works really well off road across fields etc. Although not so easy when older one is on the buggy board off road! I have taken it on the beach and managed with a little difficulty.

In terms of boot, it is large. Really depends on what car you have. I can fit it in my skoda karoq, was a squeeze when used with the carrycots but much easier with the seats.

Have a bugaboo donkey. Absolutely love it. It felt like a faff to get in the car when we very first got it but it didn't take long to get used to it and now feel it's easy.

It's so lovely to push and I like that it can be used in single mode too.

I have had occasions (not many) when I can't fit it through a door though. I've either had to not bother or put it down to single to get through.

I would still recommend it though, it's great.
