Has anyone’s baby been treated for talipes?

Not sure if I’ve posted in the right thread but I have twins who will be six months in two weeks.
from being born we’ve been told one of our ur girls has positional talipes and we’ve been doing physio with her.
we’ve been to see an orthopaedic consultant and have been told she has fixed talipes which will be treated with casting/ surgery/ brace for 3 months following four years of a brace whilst she’s asleep.
I know this isn’t the end of the world but I feel really sad for her, I think I feel worse as she has a twin sister who won’t have this.
has anybody been through this who could offer some advice?

I’m also thinking about the logistics of her going to a nursery in a brace, do nurseries take children who need extra support or will I be expected to stay home with her

Did they say when the surgery is likely to take place @Flowers94? Just wondering if you'll be on Mat leave anyway?

I think there are Facebook groups of parents in this situation have you had a look? And a national charity I believe. Might be worth a look

There is a great group on Facebook called STEPS who are a national charity. There are a lot of parents on there with children with fixed talipes. My daughter had positional talipes and hip dysplasia. The talipes was fixed with massage and physio.

You will be fine. They should do the operation soon after the casting has finished I think. Then will most likely be in boots and bar full tike, moving to part time wear over time.

Yes, mine has a year left in boots @Flowers94 what do you want to know?

Casting is about 2 months and most tricky bit as you’re in hospital weekly for recasting and baby can struggle when casting which can lead to a bad cast and it slipping off later. But you’re just going to need to see what happens- I had to breastfeed throughout casting to keep my little one still- bit awkward in front of male caster! Get this bit done assp

The op was no biggie- don’t worry about it. Very quick

The boots and bars need to be worn full time for a few months- get this out of the way before they’re walking, you’re in a good position to do this. Your nursery will be absolutely fine with it. Don’t worry about that.

Nighttime boots and bars until age 5 is no big deal… my child and siblings are used to it. Put them on EVERY night without fail and your children will not question it. It becomes non negotiable. If you leave them off for a sniffle here, crying episode there.., you are more likely to develop resistance. Be really strict about it.

Non compliance in boot wearing is the biggest issue the hospitals see- kids relapsing because their parents weren’t strict about boot wearing, so you don’t want to be in that position.

My twins are nearly 7 and my son was born with congenital bilateral talipes. We're nearly 2 years out of boots and bars. Feel free to DM me xx
