Hi! I've found out I'm pregnant with twins (non identical) and we're so excited. I'm only just over 13 weeks but I was wondering when did your midwife or consultant tell you when you was expected to be indust or planned c section???

Congratulations, I was told by midwife they'd decide at 28/30 weeks.
My consultant saw me at 12 weeks and due to a previous traumatic birth I was told 37 weeks for induction at the latest (had them exactly 37 weeks natural birth following induction). He tried to persuade me to have a c-section but then agreed we'd try induction but I'd agree to section if not progressing/problems earlier rather than later.

Hi , we all kept an open mind but it became apparent at about 35/6 weeks that mine were in an awkward breech position and I was booked for a c section at 37 weeks, which was an absolutely great experience, nothing like I expected. My piece of unwarranted advice ; get the largest bed you can afford if you don't already have it!

I have twins, also non identical like yours, though if the same sex you still have a 30 percent chance of them being identical.

Discussions about my birth happened early on but only because I had lost a little one before falling pregnant with the twins. I made my preference for a C Section at the earliest possible time known to my bereavement midwife and consultant and was told they would book me in for between 36-37 weeks. The actual plans and preparations for my c section didn’t actually happen though until I was around 32/33 weeks, and my actual c section date was booked in for 37+1.

The guidelines for DCDA pregnancies are not to go beyond 37+6 and depending on your choice of birth you should be either booked in for induction or c section before this time. You can still have a natural birth with twins, generally the deciding factor in this though is the position of twin 1, you will be scanned regularly anyway, I was every 2/3 weeks from 16 weeks onwards.

Good Luck with your twin journey!

My consultant said to aim for 38 weeks.
I had a planned c-section at 38 weeks which was a lovely calm experience (no pain and a day or two recovery time).

My pregnancy was also uneventful - no symptoms and went smoothly. The bump wasn't that big either - I hid it in work till 25 weeks. Just saying that in case you're worried about the pregnancy/bump size.
I hope you have a great pregnancy.

Twins are great! ❤️ 💙

Hiya, unless you are dead set on CS it makes sense to wait and see. I wanted a natural birth, and got one (well sorta) but it ended up with BoyTwin having health issues and needing to be induced and then both coming very fast!

You just don't know till you're further on.

Quornflakegirl · 13/03/2023 20:59

A decision was made at 32 weeks, a scheduled c section due to them both being transverse. My waters went 2 weeks later and I had a emcs.

You won’t know if your twins are identical or not until they are born (perhaps not even until they’re tested). Dcda identical twins does happen, I know a few.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!
The nurses said for me to wait for 32 weeks and then they would see what to do.
Ended up with a planned c section at 38 weeks

Congratulations!
I have 3 DC. DS 3.5 and DD&DS (twins) 14 weeks old.

I think I was around 30/32 weeks when they decided the birth plan. As I had a vaginal birth with DS they were happy for me to try vaginal birth again as long as my leading twin (twin 1) was head down.

I didn't really want a caesarean but was happy to have one if it was my safest option. If I didn't have DS vaginally than a vaginal birth the consultant said wouldn't have been an option.

I went into labour on my own at 35+5 and had them at 36w exactly. I did have a vaginal birth with my twins and felt very lucky to have the birth I wanted.
I did have to have an epidural placed just incase I had to be taken down for a caesarean but the epidural didn't work for me so just used gas and air. My twin 1 was head down luckily as a couple of days before that she was breech! Twin 2 did come out breech but that wasn't an issue that he was breech because DD was my leading twin and she was head down. They were born 8 minutes apart.

I had my caesarean booked in for 37 weeks from about 30/32 weeks.

Congratulations!

I was told I'd see the consultant at 32 weeks., but midwife had said in my case c section was likely to be recommended (only one placenta, and it was low and the boys were not looking well positioned). He stressed that it was my choice, but strong recommended c section at 36 weeks if we got that far. We didnt - section at 34 weeks as they were starting to show distress.

The medical professionals will be clear about the options and you'll get lots of information before you make your choice. Perhaps just try to keep an open mind as long as you can!

littlebirdieblu · 18/03/2023 17:46

Congratulations!! I had my identical twin girls at 35 weeks, vaginal birth, planned induction for 36 weeks as I had high blood pressure, but the girls wanted to meet us sooner. ❤️
