8 weeks scan. One twin measuring 3 days behind

We had a private scan at 8 weeks, when we found out we are expecting twins. Twin 2 was measuring 7+ 5 which was spot on to my dates. But twin B was smaller and only measuring 7+2. Should I be worried about this?

They look to be non identical as in separate sacks and probable separate placentas forming. I have read about vanishing twin, among other twin pregnancy scare stories so not sure what to think

No don't be worried at all. It's completely normal for babies to measure a few days out and even more normal for twins as there is normally one slightly smaller than the other.

@pigglepot thank you for your reply! It's very reassuring. Hopefully everything will he ok for the 12 week scan xx

Also scans are not always totally accurate, especially when the sizes they are measuring are so small

@lovepositivity no problem. I honestly wouldn't worry at all. The fact that you have seen them both looking healthy at 7weeks is also a great sign. And as the other poster said measurements are very inaccurate at this stage anyway as it's a matter of mm. I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine with your pregnancy although I know it's a worrying time. Xxx

It is normal for one twin to be bigger than the other and at this stage measurements are very inaccurate.

My twins were around 8% difference throughout. At birth one was 5lb 5oz and one was 6lb 3oz

Non identical twins / separate sacs can mean that they are two eggs fertilised by two sperm.

That could happen a day or more apart.

Thank you @Wishing56 and @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz... Thats really reassuring! She did mention that fertilisation could well have occurred on different days xx

One of my twins consistently measured a week or so behind her brother - it started out at 3 days at 6-10 weeks and was a week or more from the 12 week scan all the way until birth. She was born 2lb smaller but is perfect and more than makes up for it in feistiness. Her brother came out more the size of a Singleton baby - he's massive 🤣 - I think he just didn't know he was a twin and had to share the food! 🤣

My twins measured differently and they are identical. They were 6lbs and 5 lb 10 when born. Even now there are a couple of cm and a pound or two between them.

Completely normal for non ID twins. I had a scan at 10+2 and twin 2 only measured 9+3. We were told to be prepared she wouldn't make it. She's now taller than her sister Smile
