Hi there,

We have a 19 month old daughter so in January we thought we would try for baby number 2! Very luckily for us this happened on the first attempt.

We had a 7 week private scan on Thursday which confirmed it was twins!

We were very shocked and very surprised and realised how lucky we are.

I just wondered if there is anyone else out there can can give us any pointers or heads up / advice as to what's to come 😅

Hi there huge congratulations! I had boy/girl twins in January! So any questions just fire them at me! 🤣

Congratulations! Expect the pregnancy to be a bit more tiring. And, once you know which type of twins, do your reading.

Honestly, once they arrive it all falls on to place regarding routines etc. look forward to them and best of luck!

Reading the responses with interest and standing by your side! We have a 22 month old and just found out I'm seven weeks pregnant with twins too!

Congratulations! I’m 30 weeks pregnant with DCDA boy twins.

If you’ve found out at a private scan let your midwife/hospital know as they might need to adjust your care pathway and allocate longer scan slots to check two babies.

You will have lots of scans from 20 weeks- probably at least every 4 weeks, or even more frequently if the pregnancy is considered higher risk.

My hospital considers 37 weeks term for twins so that’s something to bear in mind when planning mat leave.

I’ve managed ok so far with the pregnancy- it’s more intense and the weight gain happens quicker than with a singleton. The stomach stretching pains are very uncomfortable. I’m bigger now than I was when I had my first at 38+5 and I have to take it easier this time around. Just counting down the weeks until I meet them!

Congratulations! I am mummy to 13month old MCDA twin girls.
Once you find out what 'type' of twins you are having at your 12week scan then you find out the regularity of your scans & when they will look to deliver them. I had MCDA (identical- two sacs & share a placenta) so was scanned every 2 weeks and was delivered at 36+4 I opted for c-section but you can try vaginally if babies are in the right positions. DcDA are normally delivered in the 37th week.
You will probably find you will have a consultant led pregnancy so after each scan you see consultant to talk through how things are going. It meant I didn't see a midwife after 16weeks but my consultant was great and actually delivered my twins in the end.

Try not to get too scared by googling everything. I remember googling in those early weeks and terrified myself with the risks but I felt so well looked after throughout my pregnancy.

The Twins Trust website has some great info on twin pregnancy/birth/childhood

By 28weeks I was measuring the size of a singleton full term pregnancy and was signed off for the rest of my pregnancy due to sciatica.

One of the best things I ever bought was a twin feeding pillow. My girls still sit in it now to have their bedtime milk.

If you have any questions then just ask Smile

Just wanted to sign into this thread as I've just found out I'm 8 weeks with twins. (Don't have my head around the terminology but two separate eggs and separate yolk sacs.) Still in shock and going from excited to head spinning at the logistics. I have a 3 year old DD too.

How are you feeling @cravingmilkshake and @Springb0ks?

Emma301091 · 06/04/2021 08:47

@cravingmilkshake congratulations! (If your user name is actually how you feel, I craved banana milkshake when I was pregnant.
I have 4 month old MCDA twin boys and a 2 year old (he turned 2 when the boys were 2 months old)
I was scared about having them but there's no need to be. Don't get me wrong some days are hard even more so with a toddler.. be ready for the massive mum guilt of not feeling like your spending enough time with your toddler! And screen time will get you through the tough days so hang in there!! And just like a single baby do WHATEVER it takes to make your life easier no matter what anyone else says!
I had mine at 36+1, I went into labour naturally and because twin 1 was head down I was able to deliver vaginally, twin 2 was breach, and as soon as 1 came out I had a midwife either side of me holding onto my stomach to make sure 2 didn't turn around and go side ways, luckily I was able to deliver 2 breach (my consultant who was male I will add, did make a point between 1 coming out and explaining about the 2nd of saying he's breach but it's fine, if anything I prefer to deliver the second breach) he then quickly followed with but uno I'm not the one giving birth so it's irrelevant but it will be ok.. I think the look on my face told him to STFU 😂.
As above when you find out what type they'll decide on your care plan. I was scanned every two weeks more or less from the start as my first scan they dated me at just under 11 weeks so couldn't do the screening so was back in two weeks later to do that and then just kept inviting me back from then on lol. Twins are a worry but you will be so well looked after. I was known as 'the twin lady' - I assume they didn't have many twin pregnancies at that time! Lol

Happy to ask any questions if you wanted but I'm sure there are more experienced mums on here too :) x
