Pram recommendations

Hello!
Trying to get myself organised for my twins arrival and just cannot decide on a pram!
When the twins are born my son will be (hopefully if I go to term) 18 months so 3 under 2! 😆

I had a Silvercross Pioneer for my son and I loved it. Because 90% of his life has been spent in lockdown, going for long walks in the park was the days highlight.
I love going to the park and nipping to the shops and a part of me wants to get a good quality pram again but then I'm logistically working out in my head how you leave with 3.... 😂
I'm thinking a double buggy with one carrycot and one in a sling. I'm thinking of a tandem style so it's easier to get in and out the shops.

Options are Silvercross Wave and iCandy Orange. Could anyone recommend any? Whatever we decide I'll get it second hand - even then though they're still expensive so I don't want to buy something and not use it!

Not what you asked but we had this...

You could use one car seat seat for baby and pushchair for older, or lie flat pushchair seat for baby and pushchair for older or swap pushchair for the seated buggy board. Good sized basket.

Hi. I am new here. I have a 10 month boy and expecting the second baby in April. Looking for a tandem pram to be good for both babys. Can you recommend which is the best tandem pram from your experience?? Many thanks!

Can't recommend a specific pushchair as my twins are now 11 (there's so much more range now). I bought an ex display model was alot cheaper but still had a gaurentee. I would say tandem was better for shops etc. I had one which the car seats attached on to but could also use flat from newborn. Also keep in mind weight as when you are pushing two toddlers it gets heavy and they will be that stage longer than newborn (I ended up buying a cheap side by side pushchair for this reason). I live in a very hilly area and also found the weight when going down hill difficult too so was glad to have one with a break on. One issue I did find was that it was impossible to get into some baby changing rooms with a double /tandem pushchair so one where they lay quite flat was useful for nappy changes (needs must).

I have 2 friends that have had twins and both sweat by the bugaboo donkey. It's pricey though but they say worth every penny x

Hi OP. I had an iCandy tandem and whilst it was great as a single, I would not recommend a tandem - it was so heavy and difficult to steer when one baby was in front of the other.

I ended up selling the iCandy and getting a Mountain Buggy Duet (the most narrow double there is). It does feel bigger than the iCandy but much much more agile and I've only come across one doorway I couldn't get through.

BluebellsGreenbells · 30/01/2021 14:08

I went for the narrowest buggy so it would fit through the door at home, that way they could sleep in the hallway and fit on the bus.

The inline ones will be unbalanced when going up steps, bear this in mind

I had a buggy board for the 2 year old or she sometimes sat on the hood and held on to me or buried her head inside my coat.

I know you think tandem would be easier but for longevity I’d highly recommend the out n about double. My friend had twins and a 1 year old and tried the uppababy first set up as a double but has had to swap to the out n about because even at 9 months the big travel system is just too heavy and bulky. The out n about fits through every door I’ve ever tried with it, it’s light & easy to use and I recommend them to everyone I know- those with twins or small age gaps!

I have a mountain buggy for my twins, it's a lot thinner than the other double buggies. It's been great, I have been able to fit in all shops and restaurants without an issue.
I didn't want a tandem buggy because I didn't feel it was fair that one wouldn't have a view and didn't want to keep tabs on who was in the front seat to make sure I alternated it.

Sarie90 · 31/01/2021 12:56

I second the mountain buggy. It is very narrow and I never had any issues getting in and out of shops. I liked that you could see both babies rather than one being stuck underneath. I know a few other twin mums who brought the bugaboo donkey but switched to the mountain buggy because it was just to heavy.

ChampooPapi · 07/02/2021 10:41

Yes mountain buggy duet! Slimmest out there I think (the V3 model) grab one from gumtree for a fraction of the price. I got a nearly new one for 250 pounds. They are like a grand new!

AtLastEarwax · 09/02/2021 08:12

I'm a childminder and had every make of pushchair it's unreal!

Side by side - bugaboo donkey
Tandem - egg

I had the silvercross wave for my two (newborn and 18 month old). Carry cot at the top, seat at the front and a buggy board on the back. Worked perfectly for us, although I would say the front seat isn't as spacious as the pioneer (which we had first!) but my eldest is petit and actually spent more time using the buggy board. You do have the buy the front seat and adaptors separately so it ramps up the price quite a bit, but I loved it.

eliniatko · 06/04/2021 20:00

It might be rather hard to have twins and a tandem - the maneuverability and curb popping is simply worse (and the view are not "fair", in a way): I mean, yes, the narrowness is nice, but the long frame not so much. I personally would go for a Bugaboo Donkey, the maneuvering and variablity are simply too nice. And did you know that it is as wide as a Vista when in single mode (and still narrower than usual doors in the double mode, if, of course, not equipped with two car seats at the same time)? From tandems, I would prolly go for a BJ City Select Lux, and with maybe the bench seat for the older one to have at the ready. It is more compact than most tandems, and rather versatile.

I've put a lot about tandem versus side-by-sides in this not-too-long article, if you'd be in a mood to read.

RLI1105 · 23/04/2021 20:18

Hi everyone! Really appreciated everyone's insight into prams and wanted to give an update!
We ended up with a mountain buggy duet and so far I am super pleased with it! We've taken my son out in it and the visibility is great for him. Steering is easy and the best thing is to easily fits through the door of our flat.

Thank you so much to the people who mentioned it - it wasn't on my radar before but I think it'll be perfect for us!

Oh and the best bit, my friend had one and was getting rid of it and didn't want any money! (We have bought them a voucher for a nice restaurant and have posted it for them as a surprise but a big saving!)
