relationship between twins and the rest of the family

As someone with lots of twins in the family, there is a real possibility I could find myself having twins one day and sometimes I wonder as the bond between twins is usually very strong and thats beautiful, do parents of twins ever feel they can't match the bond that their twins have. As babies tend to look to their parents for comfort, do parents of twins find that their children look to each other, more than to them for comfort. I was also wondering when twins come along and there are other siblings, do the other children feel left out or is the sibling bond with the others just as strong.

I dunno about the bond between twins? I have two babies who just happened to be conceived at the same time, they are no more attached to one another currently as they are to the oli the owl I have hanging in the cot.
Sometimes I think they see the other one being held and think ‘hey, that’s where I’m meant to be’. They are, after all, currently competing for resources.

Going forward most modern parenting resources would seem to recommend that twins be treated as individuals, so I would hope that they would be part of the family unit as individuals within it, as close to their siblings as they can be despite the age gaps.
I would absolutely expect to parent them as individuals and have them rely on me for comfort.

But I guess that depends on the children as they get older.

Mine are not identical, perhaps they need to be identical for that kind of bonding link?

Are you planning on identical twins OP? Grin

I have 10 month old identical twin girls and a 4 year old boy. The twins get on very well with their brother. The three of them play and enjoy each others company. The twins however are forever competing with each other for attention from myself, especially when I am breastfeeding one, the other would get jealous and crawl over to try and pull her sister away from the breast. For now I feel the twins have a strong bond with myself as they're so reliant on me, but I can imagine later in life their bond with each other would be strengthened, especially if they become best friends. They eat, sleep, bath and play together so they're bound to gain a bond.

I have b/g twins. Whilst they do have an amazing bond with each other, if they’re in need of comfort they want their mama all the way. If one of them gets hurt, the other will scream and be desperate to be with them, but want me at the same time too.

ID twins here, now in year 5 and they are best of friends and worst of enemies! I wouldn't say they have a particularly strong bond, but when the chips are down, they look out for each other which is good.

When they were a lot younger, one of the twins tended to play alone/be excluded by the other children and I have found that now that they are all older, that twin will happily go off and do things alone whereas the other prefers company.

There is a 5 year gap between them and their older sibling, so they don't have much in common, but will get along quite nicely when we do find things that they can all do together.

There are no signs that there bond to each other is stronger than their bond to me

B/G twins here.

When they were babies, they obviously were soothed and comforted by the presence of the other one. DTD in particular visibly relaxed when you put her brother in the cot too.

Day to day, they don't get on any better with each other than they do with their older sister. But there are occasional signs of a special bond: they are both panicky and distraught if the other one is seriously hurt (thankfully rarely!). And sometimes they will say or do exactly the right thing for the other one in a surprising way. (E.g. DTD had a book fall off her shelf on to her head. Sobbing and nothing I did/said seemed to comfort her. DTS arrived to see what was the matter and started throwing soft toys at her head. This was hilarious and just what was needed. They do that sort of thing quite often.) They fight a lot too though!
