Chances of twins?

Hi all Smile
I hope it's ok to post this here - I've recently found out I'm expecting and I'm only 4.2 weeks, but I'm already feeling very tired and the lines on the few tests I've taken are very dark. Has anyone who has had twins found this to be a sign?
My maternal grandmother was a twin, and there are two more sets of twins on the maternal side of my family too so I'm not sure if this increases the chances?
Thanks in advance for any responses!

Congrats!

Are the twins identical or non identical?

Identical twins is a random occurrence of the cells (forget the correct term at that stage of conception) splitting so not hereditary. It's chance.

Non identical twins is due to the woman releasing two or more eggs in the same cycle and this is hereditary.

So non identical twins may run in families - on the woman's side.

@Conkerer so sorry I didn't make that very clear! I'm not sure yet whether I'm expecting twins - I'm sure the likelihood is that I'm not, but just wondered if dark positive lines at this early stage is a possible sign, combined with the fact there are twins on the maternal side of my family Smile

Well, as someone who is currently pregnant with non id twins, and that twins have never appeared in either of our families, I can confirm that this isn't always the case.

Also, my line was so faint on my first test with these twins, that I thought I was just having a chemical pregnancy. Far lighter than the line with single DS.

What I did notice is that in my first single pregnancy, I felt sick. I had morning sickness and, bless me, I thought it was bad.

This pregnancy, I went to the doctors and literally said "help me I'm dying" as I was too poorly to even work from about week 6, and slept for about 15-18hrs a day. Honestly, I was convinced my time was up.

Women who have triplets and up? Fucketh me. They are super human.

Sorry I don't know about the pregnancy test lines.

I was just pointing out that if your family occurrences of twins is identical, there's no higher chance of you carrying twins, than any other person. That's chance.

For the PP who says non identical twins doesn't always run in families - no of course not. It could still be spontaneous that you released two eggs during that cycle. Just because your mother/aunt/grandmother didn't, doesn't mean you can't.

But simply - identical is chance and non identical can be inherited.

Non identical could also be chance, but identical is never inherited.

I can honestly say that the tiredness was shocking with twins during the first trimester then it got easier, but my strongest suspicion was because I was clearly showing at ten weeks!
Congratulations by the way! 💐

My maternal grandmother had dcda twins and so did I. I got BFP early at 9DPO but it was faint.

Hi I'm expecting DCDA twins I'm 16 weeks. My pregnancy tests on the day my period was due was so so dark and showed asap! I also was extremely tired in the first few weeks! Hope you get the outcome you wish for 💕
