Sleeping arrangements for twins

I'm 19+1 and starting to think about sleeping arrangements for when they get here!

I've been looking at arms reach co sleeper to start, but they seem very expensive for what they areShock Would it be OK to put them straight into a cot bed in our room from the start? I'd like them to be in same cot to begin with.

What do I put them in during day to sleep if so? I'd love to hear all about your twin sleeping solutions pleaseSmile

Mine in a shared standard cot until about 4/5 months, then a cot each in our room until 8 months. Then into their own room in their own cots until they could climb out of them.

ITA, in same cot until too big; then two cots.

Our's had their own beds in their own bedrooms; but either slept in the same bed or on the floor of the other's bedroom, until they were ten!

We put ours straight into a cot in their own room due to awkward wardrobe and door in our room. They only shared a cot for a short time, can't remember why!

For downstairs we used these for a few months until they napped in their cots.

I evicted DP and had them both in a shallow moses type basket on the bit of our bed that he was no longer sleeping in. When they got wriggly I had them in a cot beside the bed, then two cots, and finally when they were at last sleeping through I moved the cots into their own room and poor DP was able to sleep in his own bed again!

AllStar14 · 04/05/2018 14:26

Mine shared a cot bed in my bedroom for the first few months and I had a travel cot downstairs for their naps. They went into their own room and own cots at about four months.

DailyMailFail101 · 04/05/2018 14:27

Sounds a great idea!

Mine shared a cot from day 14 when we came home from scbu. I had one cot in our bedroom and one cot downstairs. They shared one cot until 14 months then had their own. Mine liked sleeping squashed together once they could move around. They had days time naps in one cot until they turned 3. They're 6 this year and still sleep side by side.

As per SIDS safe sleeping guidelines, they should each go into their own crib, swaddled, with feet touching the bottom. If possible they should both be in your room. They are still in my room at 20 months. Hmm I’ll move them in with their older brother as soon as they start sleeping through. Any day now...

Happyandshiney · 04/05/2018 14:40

Our initially shared a crib in hospital but we found that it was impossible to pick one crying baby up with our disturbing the other (big twins!) we asked for another crib.

We put them in separate cribs next to each other in our room at night (switching to separate cots in our room as they got bigger)

Initially during the day they slept in their pram carry cots (completely flat with mattresses I’m not talking about a travel system)

We then moved to little padded rocker/bouncy chairs as this made it easier for us to see each other and interact while I was breastfeeding the other baby.

unintentionalthreadkiller · 04/05/2018 14:41

Mine were in a cot in our room, until about 5.5 months when they didn't fit anymore and went into separate cots. They had their feet at the opposite ends and heads i the middle of that makes sense. Downstairs they sept in bouncy chairs or carry cots.

BobbiBabbler · 04/05/2018 14:43

It's safe for them to sleep in the same cot as long as they're feet to foot (ie one at each end) and all blankets firmly tucked in. Mine were in moses baskets till about 16 weeks (born prem). Then they went into their cotbed and they're still sharing at over a year as they sleep so much better together.

Sleep? Not sure you will get any op.
Sorry no use at all!!

On the contrary I think the reason that mine have always slept so well is because they have each other for comfort. Twins doesn't necessarily mean that you'll never sleep again.

ScrunchyBook · 04/05/2018 15:12

At night they shared a cot in our room until they got too big, then separate cots in our room. At about 9 months we moved DD into the nursery as she was starting to sleep more, moved DS at about 12 months I think.
All daytime naps in Baby Bjorn bouncers or pram bassinets, until they went down to one nap at 12 months, then we moved daytime nap to cots in their room.

My twins are now 15 weeks. We have a very small bedroom so started with both in a Chico lullago which will be a travel cot when older. They were side by side width ways then at either end when they got too long. Now I have one in a Moses basket and the other in the lullago. Once they outgrow the Moses basket I will probably move the one who sleeps through into the nursery until the other one goes through the night too.

Mabelface · 04/05/2018 15:20

My three were in Moses baskets inside their big cots until they outgrew them. Downstairs, I had a travel cot.

juneavrile · 04/05/2018 15:30

Forgot daytime. Mine either slept in the cot in our room or in the baby jogger buggy in their cots - they didn't every sleep in the carry cots if they weren't in the pram and they never took to the baby bjorns either.

I also have good sleepers - started 6-7 hours at 14 weeks which stretched quickly. I remember it well - sanity returned.

isthismummy · 05/05/2018 19:00

Thank you for all the responses everybody. Really interesting to hear everyone's different methods🙂

As we're on a budget I'm thinking we might just have cot beds from the off. One upstairs and one downstairs. Would that be OK? I do love Moses baskets, but they seem quite an expense for something that won't last very long.

I’ll be honest op sounds like a fab idea in principle but at the end of the day you will end up having them squished up with you in your bed, buy whatever you want and hope for the best. The best laid plans and all that.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 11/05/2018 14:59

Mine didn’t sleep with me. One twin went through a phase for a month or two because she was sick, but the other has always slept by herself. They both do again now.

isthismummy · 20/05/2018 01:02

They definitely won't be sleeping with me. I feel tired just reading some of the co sleeping stories on here.

They can keep me awake from their cot insteadWink

If you fancy a co-sleeper check this thread for advice www.mumsnet.com/Talk/multiple_births/3229789-bedside-cot.

43percentburnt · 20/05/2018 02:17

I coslept with mine. They are 2 now and both sleep from 6.30 to 5/6. They only ever wake to go to the loo in the night. They share a bed and one gravitates to the other!

I chose to cosleep as I bf. I also woke the sleeper to tandem feed as new borns. It was odd choosing to wake a sleeping baby at 3am.
