Natural birth/C section with twins?

Hi ladies, I'm just looking for some experiences from other twin mummy's please? I'm only 14 weeks with twins but all I can think about already is the birth! With my daughter (apart from a long labour and some stitches) everything went smoothly and I recovered fairly quickly 😊 Whenever I have spoken to midwives/consultants about the subject they have always assured me that a natural birth with twins is completely possible (providing the babies are healthy, in correct position etc) but obviously a c section is also a possibility, which for some reason I am scared of 🙈🙈 I know it's ridiculous! Haha
I would just appreciate if any of you ladies could share your experience of twin birth please as I am interested in hearing about both sides and how quickly you recovered etc? x

Ha @Iwantaunicorn my leg sprang a leak too! The first doctor I asked about it told me I had "sweaty legs": idiot. Second doctor explained it was part of my pre eclampsia and the swelling, I was low on the protein needed to regulate water content in my cells. That was a really weird pregnancy symptom though.

My dts are 6 now. I was induced, it took around 2 days for the dr to attempt to break my waters. They found that twin 1 was actually breech so I then needed a semi-elective caesarean. I made it to 38 weeks, the recovery was so much easier than the last couple of months of pregnancy! I did struggle to breast feed, so much so that I burst into tears to one of the midwives, she was lovely and had twins herself, she told me to bottle feed, which I did; happy mummy happy babies.

Congratulations! Twins are so special Thanks

Had my twins at 34 weeks, went into natural labour (nicu was full at my local hospital so needed to be blue lighted to another hospital 2 hours away!) but labour didn’t progress after 15 hours and eventually had an emergency section. It was a calm and reassuring experience and I never felt pain or discomfort. Didn’t get to hold the Twins as they were rushed to nicu but they were both fine so this was really just a precaution. I also recovered quickly, was out and about for daily walks after 3 weeks. I was terrified of having them naturally so the section was actually a huge relief for me. Milk came in after 5 days and I ended up breastfeeding them for a year. Having twins is actually a huge blessing, though it doesn’t always feel that way especially in the early days!

Thanks everyone, I'm going to be doing the paperwork at my appointment on Thurs, what should I expect? Do you actually get a date or just a period of when to expect a call to go in? She mentioned something about swabs - what are they for?

ClareB83 · 14/05/2018 19:58

I think it varies between trusts. I got a date, my friend got a period.

The swabs are to check for MRSA I think.

I’ve had two sets of twins. First set vaginal birth and second set elective as I couldn’t face the thought of vaginal birth again (also have a single baby and all v births I found traumatic). If you’ve already had a positive experience of v birth, I’d be tempted to try, as it’s really not much different to pushing out one from my experience, and you should be well managed. Csection was also fine. Not as calm and relaxing for me as seems for others, but I definitely felt more in control in some ways. Very similar recoveries, although I had third then second degree tears with first three deliveries.

Good luck, whichever you decide. And congratulations!

I had my twins at 32 weeks, natural birth, the midwives didn't believe I was in labour as it was so early, and gave me 2 paracetamol - luckily the birth took minutes and was very quick!

Sid and xxl were your twins monochorionic? That seems to make all the difference as to whether a cs is recommended.

sidonie1 · 27/05/2018 14:35

No, both sets were fraternal for me.

I have five children, my youngest are twins. Their birth was the calmest, easiest one of all. I had an epidural as advised, in case of complications with the second baby, but all went well. Had an amazing midwife!
