Body after twins getting me down

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 28/04/2018 16:59

Feeling a bit low about the state of me 18 months on from having twins. I was ok about the fact that I now have a pot belly situation going on, but my once small-anyway chest after 10 months of breastfeeding is now...just... like two empty tiny bags. I feel like a teenager again- anxiety over trying on bras and not feeling ‘normal’. I guess this is how they will look now?
I always thought I’d be cool with how my body would be after twins because I’ve got my twins and it’s amazing, but I’m shocked at how sad I am about my body.

Anyone else? Or maybe someone can come along and reassure me that on the 20th month after birth everything looked ok again?!!!

I've been constantly pregnant or breast feeding for the last 2 years, I'm 13 weeks post parting with DD2 & I'm also struggling to see this body as anything to be proud of as I've had 2 CS & the kangaroo pouch is pretty awful Sad

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 28/04/2018 17:09

Me too! 2 CS as I have a little boy too. Isn’t it fun eh? But body seemed sort of ok the first time around...ish...

Could have written this myself. My boys are 19 months. I still have diastasis and my stomach is huge, my boobs are awful, I’m more than a stone heavier than I was before and it will not shift. I’m thinking of trying couch to 25k but will have to take the boys in their buggy to do it!

SinkGirl · 28/04/2018 17:11

Sorry, couch to 5k not 25k!

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 28/04/2018 17:15

We have the exact same body then sink! What’s worse is that the free time I have is in the evenings and there’s just no way I can muster motivation to do anything but collapse. Although the boobs are not fixable! Sounds like you are doing lots to combat things though well done!

SinkGirl · 28/04/2018 17:39

Well I haven’t done anything yet! I’m trying to walk more but I have ME and pain from endometriosis so it’s really difficult. Changes to diet don’t seem to make a difference, I think the pregnancy has just busted my metabolism. Doesn’t matter how much exercise I do or what I eat, I am stuck in the same 2lb range.

I have a Nipper double buggy so I’m going to see if it’s possible to jog with that (one of my friends manages it with her twins) and couch to 5k seems like it builds up quite gradually so once this current flare up of pain subsides I’m going to give it a go.

tinykirst · 28/04/2018 17:46

I know it's hard but look at all the amazing things your body has done and given you! Be proud of your body!

After having babies we will never look the same, so we just have to embrace our jiggly bits and think yeah well done me! Not only have I grown and nurtured babies inside my belly I have also carried on making them thrive after they were born! That's amazing!

I'm yet to know because I'm still breastfeeding but I've heard that our boobs won't always stay like flabby empty sacs, thankfully!

But what you need to do is go and get some amazing underwear. Find a bra that lifts your boobs and makes them look fab. And get some sexy Spanx. Slip on a dress that makes you feel fab, put on a pair of heels and look at yourself in the mirror and feel gorgeous! xxx

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 28/04/2018 18:00

That’s made my eyes moisten a little bit, tiny, thank you!! Just what I needed.

And I am even more dull of admiration for sink after

Re the post twin bf boobs I did find mine after I stopped bf (fed for two years) they shrunk but then recovered.

Be kind to yourself though - your body has been through a lot. Sinkgirl couch to 5k would be good both physically and psychologically - if you can escape by yourself to do it all the better but if not I think would be doable with buggy. Or maybe one of those buggy fitness classes? I did one with my twins and they were quite accommodating even for those with toddlers.

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 29/04/2018 07:49

How long did it take for them to recover? Trying not to pin hopes on this haha!

I expressed milk for my twins combined with bottle formula feeding and although I only did this for 5 weeks my boobs have changed. In was a 34b before getting pregnant and a 36dd now. My boobs don't look nice. However due to going from working full-time to now being indoors all day eating for energy and for boredom.I've gained about 3 stone!! Pre pregnancy size 10/12 and am now a size 14/16....my babies are now 5 months old and I have just started to try and address it.. Move more eat less is what I am doing.. I haven't thrown out any old bras because I believe when I have lost weight my boobs will shrink again..

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 29/04/2018 12:17

It’s so hard isn’t it. I do think your body changes quite a few times in the first year after birth, too. My stomach keeps changing its mind on how it wants to look! But the muscles are weaker so at the end of the day after a meal I look properly pregnant!

Can you do some Physio? There are some people specialized in exercises to get your body back on track. My friend swore by pulling in your belly button as often as possible.

I have kind of made friends with my heavily altered body.

But getting your core and pelvic muscles in shape will be good for your body and your psyche.

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 29/04/2018 21:36

That is definitely something I should try, thank you. A few months ago I googled post partum physio and there was nothing anywhere near where I lived, but I think just general physio might be the way forward. It’s finding the time, too!

sharpcattle I can't really remember (mine are five now!) but was several months I think.....

Mabelface · 30/04/2018 08:26

19 years ago, I had triplets by cs. 6 years before that I had a singleton by cs. My body has changed enormously. I have saggy boobs, stretch marks and an overhang, with a flabby stomach. I used to hate it and be so self conscious. I don't know if it's because I've got older (48), but I look at my body now and marvel at the amazing things it's done. I carried THREE babies at once. How clever is my body? I'm now completely comfortable in my (somewhat saggy) skin. This is me and I'm not going to change.

Melamin · 30/04/2018 09:04

I had twins 24 years ago - I was quite thin and only got 1 stretch mark with DS, and my belly button never looked quite the same - but with the twins, I had stretch marks all over and stretch marks inside my belly button Sad which vanished, amonst masses of saggy skin. I despaired. There was a 'helpful' doctor on Womans Hour who said if your tummy had not gone back after a year, then it wouldn't. Angry

However! Every year saw an improvement. I took up ballet after 10 years, and my belly button came back Grin A lot of it is making yourself tall and holding everything in. I would recommend doing physio, or pilates, or ballet, or contemporary dance, or yoga, as they all improve your core and your posture. At least once a week. And anything that increases or maintains your general fitness on top of it. This all makes you feel better, healthier and gives you a sort of body confidence that is bigger than a saggy tummy.

Now, it looks ok-ish as long as I do not wear anything that cuts across at bikini height, when I get an overhang (low bikini knickers - I wear midis, and low cut jeans). I usually wear a cotton vest tucked in, under things too. (I can look rather good in clothes Wink )

Like Madlizzy, I have grown into it and regret nothing.

( Star for Madlizzy - I am in awe - 3 babies and only two knees!)

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 30/04/2018 14:19

These messages are so inspiring, and have made me feel like all is not lost! And yes, I do need to focus too on what my body has done. Triplets? Amazing. Completely amazing! Thinking of putting the twins into nursery a couple of days a week in September, so if I havnt had time to exercise before then I will make it imperative that I’m healthier and more active from then. In the meantime, having three children means any down time is spent collapsed! Bit pathetic really but there it is...

Been there, done that too LOL don't be too hard on yourself either.

Sat reading your post in a slump and then suddenly sat up straight and sucked myself in Melamin! Grin

Thank you for all for sharing! My twins are currently 3 months, and the way my body is now is really upsetting to me - doesn’t help that on fb a few friends who had a baby round the same time as me have all snapped back to their pre baby shape, I’ve been beating myself up constantly for it, because mine just isn’t. It’s so lovely to read that I’m normal, and that I’m not alone. Thank you x

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 30/04/2018 21:23

Has anyone else had ishoos doenstairs?

I am 10w postpsrtum and thought I had a prolspse - physio says it is "significant vaginal laxity" instead and will get better "eventually" if I am religious about PFX Confused am trying but so hard to find time!

Sharpcattlegridheavyhat · 30/04/2018 21:52

Yeah something I realised was that after twins my body recovered in slow motion compared to people with Singleton pregnancies. 3 months is really early iwantaunicorn, you’ll notice massive improvements as the months go by. I guess my hopes of returning to the body I had after my first pregnancy though were unrealistic...

OP posts:
Borridge · 01/05/2018 06:32

johnny have you tried one of the apps to remind you to do PFX? Or do it every time you brush your teeth, stand at a red light, or similar.
