Bedside Cot

Hello!

Had a lovely snuz pod with my first which is going to be too small for twins. I loved having a bedside cot, any recommendations? Did anybody use a drop side cot?

I got the chicco next to me and put them in with their feet towards me if that makes sense? It’s a bit bigger than the snuzpod. They are 4.5 months old now and too big to fit in it together but they weren’t tiny at birth (5lb7 and 6lb7)

I wish I bought that one to begin with now! If they grow out of it by four and a half months I might just use a cot. Thanks for the advice!

Yes it’s a bit of a pain. I have a regular sized Ikea cot downstairs for naps and they still fit in that together but are running out of space there too because DT2 rolls in her sleep! It’s worth having them together for first few months though. IME they have slept/napped better because of it.

Hello!
I’m expecting twins in 4 weeks time and have had some major stress trying to figure out where babies will sleep upstairs and downstairs without having umpteen Moses baskets or buying a Next to Me and finding twins too big for sharing it within a matter of weeks!
Have finally decided to just have fullsize cotbed beside my bed with 2 babies initially side by side then as they grow feet to either end.
For downstairs we have purchased a travel cot with proper mattress which can be raised and hoping for same sleep setup as above.
Really like idea of babies comforting each other and fingers crossed they do just this!

Thank you for the additional replies. I think we'll have to go for a cot too! Am a bit sad I won't be able to look in on them like I could with my first though! Downstairs we're going for a travel cot too. Although that's more to protect them from an excitable two year old!

We have an Ikea cot with the side off next to our bed, it’s great. Had a bednest with DD so really wabted similar for our twins. DD was already using the cot with the side off as her bed, so DH drilled some extra holes in the frame so we could have the mattress at exactly the same height. Twins are 3.5m and 13lb ish. They are technically too long to go crossways but we still usually do it as it doesn’t matter if they encroach a bit onto my mattress. Hoping to keep them in with us until 5m at least.
Downstairs we have a travel cot with raised bassinet bit, which has worked well. Starting not to use it as much as DD playing loudly is starting to wake them. We have a cotbed in th twins room so they are going up there for naps during the day now.

We took the side off a normal cot bed with ours and sidecared that. I know a lot of people that used an IKEA crib like moggie (e.g. see www.ikeahackers.net/2012/02/sniglar-crib-co-sleeper.html ) but we did the same with a larger cot bed as we were given it. Obviously look out for gaps that could cause issues with safe sleeping. We slept ours side by side with feet towards cot foot initially then turned them when bigger so lying across cot when they hadn't invaded my bed.

Another vote for converting an ikea cot. They're really sturdy when three sided and really easy to add a layer at any height you desire - just drill new holes in the frame at the appropriate level.

This is really helpful! The Ikea ones do look like they'd be very sturdy if one sided. Ok great decision made!

Note if you use a full sized cot or cotbed you'll probably have to put it right at the head of your bed which means you're out a bedside table. You might want to install some kind of shelf or basket on a hook on the wall near the bed (or hooked to far side of cot?) to store things like a bottle of water (for you) and muslins and things like that.
