Am expencting twins in July and also have a 2 and 4 yr old. Really like both mountain buggy and nipper 360, any experienced people have any comments on either, or which is best!
Thanks

My dt's are 5 weeks and I have the nipper double and love it. Can't coment on the mountain one though. The newborn supports are a must.

Good luck x

Caroline76 i have a MB double urban with 2 carrycots on it its excellent i live in Bristol so if you are near come and try mine!! Jaine xx

hairymclary · 08/05/2007 10:59

mountain buggy. no doubt about it

ChicPea · 08/05/2007 19:13

I wondered the same (now 36+wks with twins)but chose to buy urban mountain buggy 2nd hand from a friend and bought the twin carrycot new as I think its important that they lie down flat during the first 3 months. Also as the summer will be good/hot, we will spend alot of time in the garden and it saves trekking upstairs to put them to bed. Good luck.

throckenholt · 08/05/2007 19:15

we had the mountain buggy - they are bomb proof ! We used it a lot going down country lanes. We didn't use it at the newborn stage though.

kiwimumof3 · 12/05/2007 04:57

hi girls this is my first post ever

mountain buggy (terrain) was the best thing we ever bought - wore out 2 sets of tyres as did so much walking (including off-road / beaches) when dts were bubs and didn't have a car during the day (dts now 6 year olds so v distant memory) Also being in NZ, the factory is just 15 mins drive away and they fixed it up for us a couple of times while we waited!!

Celery · 12/05/2007 07:24

Whilst I'm sure mountain buggies are the business, they're really expensive, so if you want a cheaper alternative, out n about nippers are really great pushchairs - light, narrow, durable, easy to manouvre. I liked my double one so much, I got a single when the older of the two was out of pushchair.

Caroline76 · 12/05/2007 18:28

Thanks ladies. I think we are leaning towards the mountain buggy. I think this is purely because of the twin carrycot. It really appeals to me to see them next to each other in the same carrycot. The handiness you've mentionned Chickpea of the garden etc is what I have thought of too. I really cannot believe that the Jane power twin seems to be the only buggy you can quickly whack two car seats on though! Goodluck to all of you. THanks

Have you considered the XTS twin twister? I have decided to get this after looking at all the alternatives. The Mountain Buggy and Nipper both have hammock style seats whereas the XTS has 'proper' seats and a detachable bumper bar so my oldest can sit forward and hold on. Chekc it out!

mumofeight · 16/05/2007 18:43

Not a multiple mum but I am a buggy addict lol, another thought could be the adventure buggy, the double is £399, and I think the raincovers another £39, but it still works out cheaper than a double MB. Its bliss to push, and as you have a 2 yr old who might still need the occasional ride , you can get a toddler seat to go on the top , so you can chat to the toddler whilst walking. Its an absolutley orgeous buggy, and imo much better than the MB If you google adventure buggy it should show up. Click on the uk agent and you can send them an email.

We are probably getting one very soon, and will need the double toddler seat as both my stepdaughters have produced babies so we will have four under four

Twinmummyx2 · 18/05/2007 11:31

I haven't tried or seen either of them you mentioned!

I had the mothercare urban detour and loved it, they do lovely red now too!!!!

I ahve maclaren now they are older.

Twinmummyx2 · 18/05/2007 11:31

btw..

[waves] at mumofeight..i have 8 too!!!!...lol

moulimoo · 18/05/2007 15:12

We have the Nipper- its fab - but you must get the 360 with the sviwel front wheel. Its really light and lovely to push and we are pleased with it. I know people who have the MB and its good, but was too expensive for us as we already had two prams from dd1 and a twin maclaren--- buggy addict (sorry!)and dh would have gone mad if I spent any more!

mumofeight · 18/05/2007 16:41

< Waves back at twinmummyx2 > actually its nine now, just haven't changed my username hehe

I have a very old Urban detour, the one with the huge back wheels and its lovely , an absolute dream to push, and fits dd quite well atm. however shes rapidly growing out of it, hence us waiting to see if we can get the adventure buggy. Might end up with the MB terrain though , will have to wait and see, and not counting my chickens yet . We cannot afford it, so are waiting to see if we can get one of them funded. keep your fingers crossed for us ( dd is disabled, has mobility issues due to a heart condition, asthma , hypermobility syndrome and leg length discrepancy !!!)

Caroline76 · 18/05/2007 17:24

Mumofeight, tried looking for the Adventure Buggy but couldn't seem to get a picture of it. I found a site with revews but no actual site selling of detailing it. Do you remember where you got yours from?
Bexrob, thanks for suggesting an alternative with XTS. I really think that I just wanted justification on the MB. I do like the others, but again it is the twin carrycot that appeals to me. Expecially as consultant now thinking these twins will be early, (started having contractions the other day, admitted to hospital etc, only 30 weeks, so the thought of a carrycot facing is good.
I am a complete buggy nut too. Sorry. We had a Quinny Freestyler3 for DS1, then bought a "shopping" buggy, Mamas and Papas Plicko. DS2 came along, he still used the Quinny carrycot, then bought a Maclaren twin. Last year bought a Rockstar buggy and a zapp as the newshopping buggy. I promised partner I would be practicle this time so that we just buy the one, so am trying really hard to get opinions. I think it is bad that there aren't more to choose from that take car seats, or carrycots.

Well done for having your 9th baby..i would have loved a 9th..and 10th...lol but got sterilized as we are running out of everything here, space, bedrooms, car space and money!..lol i keep hoping one little egg will squeeze through the clips then it wouldn't be my fault..lol

the detours are lovely, the red one came out about a month after i bought the navy, was gutted, really lie red. but it was a brill buggy.

Caroline76 · 19/05/2007 21:42

mumofeight, thanks loads for that. Now you have thrown me. The toddler seat looks great. Now I am muddled between lovely carrycot on MB or very handy toddler seat on AB. More decisions.... honestly thanks very much for doing the links. COngrats on new buba too, you and twinmummyx2 must be super orgainsised. Makes me feels silly, worrying how I will cope once twins come along. Keep looking at my 2 and 4 year old and can't imagine looking anything less than a wild women once twins are born too.

I said no more babies twinmummyx2, asked GP to refer me for sterilisation, explained how stretched we are financially, how crowded the house was , he refused saying that I had to wait until dd was 2. Gave me the pill and promised me it was just as safe..... cue that horrible early morning sickness !!!

Went to a different hospital to have the last one, and when they did the section they cut my tubes at the same time, which was such a reief

Caroline76, I am honestly not organised !! Try hard but generally fail lol. I always wanted twins but imagining two babies at once terrifies me even now !! I have a good friend who had twins whilst her older children were 3 and 2, her house is always spotless, I have no idea how she does it !!!!! My only advice to you would be 'Don't sweat the small stuff' if the house looks'lived in' then so be it. Decide what housework is important, maybe cleaning the bathroom or kitchen , and forget the rest, do the bare minimum that you have too.If any visitor comments on the house not being perfectly tidy, hand them the hoover and a duster and thank them for their offer of help !! They will either be highly embarrased and do some housework out of shame, or they will learn to keep their silly mouths shut the next time round hehe, either way it works wonders ( even on parents and in-laws )

Twinmummyx2 · 21/05/2007 10:47

mumofeight.....i asked after my first set of twins to be sterilised but they said no because i was too young!..think i was...26...i stressed that 6 was enough and they said you will be ok but not to go back on the pill (thats how i got pregnant with 1st set and a stomach bug)!

took 1 chance on day 25 of my cycle and concieved...lol i think i have eggs waiting around all month. I was carrying triplets but one didn't develop properly

I am kinda organised in the mornings Caroline76..but i am a morning person. In the evening DP is the one that takes control. They key in our house is not to clutter, we keep it all simple and it works.xx

Caroline76 · 21/05/2007 20:56

My dp is saying he wants to get the snip now, but that all seems to final to me. Not sure what we will do yet. TMx2 I am not a morning person at all and am left on own from 6.30 in morning, so hate that part of the day. I can't handle noise in the morning either.
MOE good suggstion about handing guest hoover, I can just see their faces. I am already dreading that first week when the midwife visits. Only met mine once and I didn't really like her then, I can just imagine her coming and judging. She has twins and said the sleep when they sleep thing, but told her about 2 & 4 year old, she didn't think of anything to say then.
Well I am sure I will have to come back for advice when DTs are born from such experienced mummies. We have no choice but to have clutter as are in small 2 bed at the mo!

mumofeight · 22/05/2007 15:00

Re the sleeping when they sleep. what you might want to try, is to toddler proof one room, maybe the lounge, and then when the twins are sleeping you get out a few boxes of toys to keep the other two amused and doze on the sofa. You won't get as good sleep as if you were in bed, but it might help to keep you going !!

If you plan to bottle feed I can highly recommend the Podee feeding system. It works as a hand free kit ! So you can feed both twins at once and still have our hands free to deal with whatever mischeif the older two are up to !!
