Hi - I'm 36+2 weeks with MCDA twin boys. Am booked in for an induction on Friday but am having a wobble due to a few issues at the hospital and now twin 2 is transverse. Twin 1 is head down.

Consultant is happy for me to have a section if that's what I want. Have previously given birth vaginally without any issues.
My apprehension is around having twin 2 internally turned. Does anyone have any experience of this and how did it go?
My thoughts are going round in circles!

I has my twins by c section. Twin 2 was transverse and I could have tried for vaginal but consultant said I might end up having twin 2 by section anyway. The vaginal way would have involved epidural anyway in case manual turning was needed, so still medicalised. I'm so glad I had the c section, really straight forward and quick recovery.

My twins were DCDA so I’m not sure how much difference that’s makes in terms of risk assessment.

Like you T1 was head down and T2 was breech and then remained transverse even in labour. I didn’t have an epidural but I was warned that they may need to manually turn T2 if she remained transverse. I was happy for them to do this without an epidural if necessary as I’ve had two vaginal births before, but luckily it didn’t come to that and once my waters broke and T1 came out there wasn’t even time to even palpate to check on T2’s position - she turned herself as soon as T1 was out and was born 5 minutes later.

Apparently the c-section rate for T2 after T1 is born vaginally is 5% so for me it was worth the risk, however I’d had two straightforward singleton births and figured it would be less likely.

I really wanted a vaginal birth if poss as I have two older children and not much help. Recovery was fantastic, no tears or discomfort except for after pains and it was/is INCREDIBLE not to be pregnant with twins anymore, although that last bit stands true for a section too!

I had a great experience but so did all the twin mums I’ve met who had planned sections, so go with your gut. Good luck for tomorrow.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply both. I'm feeling in a much better head space and think I will just go in tomorrow and try and go with the flow!

Glad you are feeling better. You will boss it however they arrive! And the double cuddles are so divine. Smile
