Newborn twins sleeping arrangements

Hello... I'm struggling with what to buy for twins to sleep in from birth. Ideally they would share a cot next to my bed.

Wondering whether a Chicco Next2Me is big enough but at least it looks less clumpy than an Arms Reach? We don't have the biggest bedroom.

Would appreciate any advice.

I actually evicted DP to the spare bedroom and created a babyarium using a circle of pillows under a single duvet on his side of the bed so I could plonk them there and they couldn't roll out. Then when one started squeaking I could grab it, boob it and pop it back down again all without really waking up.

I moved them into cots still in the room at about three months I think.

Meanwhile DP was getting a reasonable night's sleep so at least he could work and avoid bankruptcy (self employment means no paternity leave etc etc)

Hi Firework
We had each baby in a Cocoonababy and then in a cotbed next to my side of the bed. After the first couple of weeks my son got a bit more difficult to settle so he slept in my bed next to me in Cocoonababy and my daughter carries on sleeping in Cocoonababy in cot. My husband had to be transferred to another room for a couple of months as after the first couple of nights we came to conclusion there wasn’t really enough space for both and the Cocoonababy but that was fine by me.

I see you don’t have lots of space - could you re-arrange some furniture? A friend with twins had both hers sleep Direct in the same normal size cot. Would that fit?

I borrowed a friends next to me when my son was about 5 months old as I was sleeping with him in my bed and really scared about that so trying to get him to sleep in his own space but he seemed to hate it even more than the regular cot because of the smallness of it.

Mine started out sharing a next2me. They were both just under 5lbs at birth. They fit ok for the first 6 weeks but then they started to annoy each other so we got another next2me on DH's side and they've both slept much better since.

I don't think the Next To Me would be suitable for two unfortunately... my friend had twins and she had them together in one cot bed, topping and tailing with separate blankets if that helps. The Next To Me is great, and wider than a standard side sleeper, but my son is 6 weeks and 11lbs and takes up most of it so I think if you put two babies in it, even if they're a great deal smaller, they wouldn't be comfortable.

(When I say he takes up most of it, I mean in his grobag lol, he's not that much of a giant Grin)

Thanks so much. I guess a lot of it is personal preference and dependent on space. In our small bedroom we have a fitted double wardrobe and a king size bed so flexibility is limited but we have discussed taking out the bedside tables, etc to give a little more space yes and happy to do that - it's only for 6 months!

Sounds like the Next2Me just isn't going to last long enough for the money really (i just liked the look of it and the fact it was on wheels so can be moved around!).

I have one Cocoonababy donated to me by my sister-in-law with a moses basket and rocker too.

Gah too much to think about!

Hi Firework,

My twins were 5.1lbs and 6.6lbs at birth and at first they both slept in a white rocking crib. By around 3m they were too big for that so I moved them both into the Chico and they quite comfortably slept together side by side until around 5m. I then separated them and left the bigger twin in the Chico and the smaller twin back in the rocking crib and moved them into their single cots by 6.5m.

I would definitely recommend having the babies share a cot as they will comfort and settle each other. The babies will be used to the closeness from the womb so it's nice to keep them together a bit longer.

Maybe you could get a second hand Chico and get a new mattress or sell your's on after use to recoup some of the cost?

I bought the babybay maxi second hand off eBay. They both slept in there a couple of weeks together but I use the word sleep loosely lol! We ended up buying two sleepyheads and separated them. The bamboo mattress for the babybay is very hard and they seem much comfier now

I had both my boys sleep together in a cot in their own room as I am a noisy sleeper and (ironically) kept waking them up during the night! They are now 1.5 so sleep in separate cots but when they were little, they enjoyed sleeping together in one cot.
