Completely at a loss...
30 weeks pregnant 1 Twin head down the other Twin breech. Had a brief discussion with the consultant today who said I can give birth naturally but they may need to “manipulate” the other Twin to turn around after twin1 has been born. Which sounds awful... do I opt for a c section... or try natural Incase Twin2 turns naturally! What were your experiences?

I don’t know terry I work for the nhs and know what staffing is like around Christmas lol!
I haven’t received a leaflet or anything. My midwife has planned to see me at the end of nov when I’ll be 34 weeks. Could of had them by then for All I know. I want to ask questions but I literally don’t know what I’m suppose to ask. I feel so clueless. Wouldn’t know what to expect with a single pregnancy never mind now with a Twin pregnancy. But Just from speaking to people on here I know they could just come at any time, and they seem oblivious to that... or they don’t really care because it’s not them that will be going through it

Dangle - are you not under consultant care? I found the Midwives shocking in their lack of knowledge about twin pregnancy (one Midwife told me I should put gas and air and water birth in my birth plan and I told the doctor and he said that water births in my hospital are against the rules for twin births).

Yeah I am consultant led. I have found my midwife explains things more to me than the consultants. Seems like we’re just with the consultants 5 minutes then we leave none the wiser

I wish I still had the pamphlet I was given, it was so helpful. I was at a large central London hospital with lots of experience of complicated and multiple births.

I can’t remember everything it said but I do clearly recall it saying 7% of vaginal births where the First twin comes out fine ends in a c-section for the second twin. That’s what made me decide for the c-section. The consultant also said to me after I told him I wanted a section “good choice”. He had previously told me to ignore anything midwives say as at the end of the day if they run into trouble delivering they pass the problem onto the doctor. I feel very strongly that mothers of twins should get the choice and should be presented with the facts by the doctor, but at the end of the day often you have to do your own research.

I found that at my hospital if you were expecting non id twins and no complications, and presenting twin head is down the default tended to be natural birth with epidural.
We were able to do a twins birth class where they basically told us that, and told us that it would be in a theatre and two doctors would deliver the babies not the midwives.
They have a lot of twin births (Southampton)

Yeah deffo, I certainly feel like a sections not been mentioned purposely as they want to avoid it. I just feel like it’s an impossible decision... so many pros and cons with each and even then it’s not bound to go smoothly
