Cloth for twins?

Am I mad to consider cloth nappies for twins?
Has anyone tried the cheap all in ones on eBay?

Cloth is great ! Terries are cheapest. Check out
www.thenappylady.co.uk
You'll do a wash a day with twins but you'll save a fortune. Refolds such as Motherease are good. I am actually looking to rehome a pile of terry squares and refolds. Yours for postage and a donation to Save the Children.

I have twins in cloth. We used cloth on Ds too when he was a baby. We bought small baby little blooms off eBay - they are ok but need changing very regularly. Have you looked at bamboo and micro fleece little lambs with separate wraps? We have blueberry wraps they are fab! Also bum genius last well. Tots bots are ok but smell bad! Fuzzy bunz are ok but need changing more often - they are nice and small though. We have prefolds as back up - use with the blueberry wraps ( the wraps are pretty bombproof).

We use bamboo boosters in all nappies ( little lamb ones) and little lamb fluffs between babies skin and nappy.

Hang on line in sun and stains vanish. (Same way as getting rid of a curry stain).

Dry on peg hanger things so you can move inside if it rains!

Don't forget to make cloth wipes - will save you a fortune and you are washing anyway!

Good luck!

MumofthreeandBean · 10/12/2016 06:59

Dr Seuss that is very kind. May I pm you for advice?

I don't know where to start! I have been looking but there are so many different types.
All in one sound less hassle but seem very expensive?!
Are prefolds like the old terry towelling my mum used? I remember those leaking a lot but I guess things have changed.

How would I make cloth wipes? 43percentburnt

Wow. Positive responses - so glad. I'm only 17weeks but want to use cloth too but as they are my first I'm a bit daunted by the choice. I'll look into your recommendations later.
There is a local nappy library (found on Facebook) where I think you try a variety before you settle on a make you like. I think that's right anyway?

Shallishanti · 10/12/2016 16:50

we used them! as long as you have a washing machine you'll be fine!
I found the all in one types took forever to dry, plain old terry squares and seperate covers were easier.

MumofthreeandBean · 10/12/2016 18:10

Do the separates leak more though??

MumofthreeandBean · 10/12/2016 18:11

Streaky I'm 16 weeks, twins was a shock!!

Shallishanti · 10/12/2016 18:21

no, I don't think so
congratulations, by the way !

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 10/12/2016 18:24

Two part nappies, with separate absorbent and waterproof bits tend to leak less than all on one reusables.

Many congratulations!

My twins are 16 now, but I used terries with them for about 18 months. I put them in disposables overnight/if we were going out and I knew they would need changed.

I washed them everyday, and they dried really quickly.

Congratulations! I found TAMBA to be a huge help.

Misspilly88 · 10/12/2016 18:26

Nappy library is a good idea. Babies are all different shapes and what works for some will leak on others. The only ones that have been completely bombproof for my son and all my friends are mother ease wraps and nappies. But, they're huge and quite old fashioned.

DrSeuss · 10/12/2016 21:41

Of course. Message away.

Alice2014 · 10/12/2016 22:10

I'd say don't invest loads into it - try a few and see if it's for you / the babies. I really wanted to use them, but my first born drank loads and wet straight through within an hour of changing, we were changing again and full sets of clothes too, even with boosters and tried loads of different types.

43percentburnt · 11/12/2016 07:39

Op we bought some bamboo cotton material cut into wipes and edged with a sewing machine. They are not pretty! I won't win a competition but they will have lasted three babies!

I've read on here that people chop up fleece from ikea.

I bought lots of different brands to see which we preferred using.

I bought a .m,cheap lidded bucket and some tea tree. Put teatree on a muslin and drape over bucket (under the lid) less smelly.

SweepTheHalls · 11/12/2016 07:43

I know nothing about real nappies, but do use cloth wipes. I bought cheeky wipes, a big stack of coloured ones for bums, and white ones for faces. I soak on their dirty essentials oils, and make up a solution of coconut oil and baby wash for the clean ones. I keep about 15 damp at a time for really easy Bum changes. I used normal wipes for the first 2 children, but am a convert as they are much more effective at getting them clean.

Konyaa · 11/12/2016 08:04

My advice is to wait and watch.

I invested tons and buying various kinds became my third trimester nesting game.

When DS came along we began with them but within a month we were so so exhausted - that we just couldn't keep up.

Didn't even have the energy to re sell on facebook selling groups. Just called the local nappy library, donated the lot, bought some disposables and that was that.

ellesbellesxxx · 11/12/2016 08:10

You asked the question that has been on my mind! I always thought I would do reusable but I wondered if I was biting off more than I could chew with twins!
Great advice thank you!!!

MumofthreeandBean · 11/12/2016 08:57

There's are no nappy library's local to me 😕
As suggested I will keep reading up, maybe get a few 2nd hand and see if we get on with them.
Thankyou for the advice

mumofthreeandbean congrats. I'm guessing from your name that they aren't your first? Gumtree has loads local to me as well - you can try there too. And the NCT nearly new sale had tonnes but at that time I had no idea what I was looking at (too much choice). And I was only buying maternity stuff.

Congrats too ellesbelles! How far along are you?

Cheers for the wipes tips! I need to get myself organized.

ellesbellesxxx · 11/12/2016 09:36

Ah thanks Streaky! Coming up for 13 weeks.. scan tomorrow (had two already as we had IVF).
How have you been feeling? I am still in nausea land!

MumofthreeandBean · 11/12/2016 09:58

16weeks here, sickness subsided unless I get a strong whiff of something!

No ivf here, my twins are non-identical, are yours?

OP posts:
ellesbellesxxx · 11/12/2016 12:20

Oh that is great to know... there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

Fraternal here too :) it was a bit of a miracle actually.. they put two embies in (which at my age they wouldn't usually) as they were behind so they were trying to give us best chance of one!!!!
Have you all got your eyes on prams yet? I like the look of the icandy peach.. but going to go second hand!

MumofthreeandBean · 11/12/2016 13:50

Prams I can't decide on, nowhere near me have stock to try and I don't want to buy blind

OP posts:
Streaky17 · 11/12/2016 16:08

Me neither. Completely undecided on side by side or not.
The icandy peach is nice - the lower seat isn't too low or tucked in behind like some.

There is a highly rated independent pram shop near us so we'll go there soon.

We are having identical twins, so have had extra scans already too.

I wasn't too bad just nauseous early on but even that has subsided recently.
