Consultant told me you won't go past 37 weeks, just wondering how many people actually get to 37 weeks with twins?

MCDA girls born by EMCS at 26+1 due to reverse EDF and TAPS (in April this year).

16 weeks in NICU and they came home on oxygen which they'll be on until around next February/March.

cookieswirls · 03/12/2016 07:35

My identical twins were 37 weeks exactly! I think they would have stayed longer but had c section planned as they were identical so carried higher risks. I was so worried every day from 24 weeks that they were going to come early. I was so luck I love my dc so much Smile

cookieswirls · 03/12/2016 07:37

Oh yes and by 37 weeks you will probably want them out as you may be quite uncomfortable yourself.

hmsbismark · 03/12/2016 07:43

Non identical twins, induced at 39.2 weeks, no signs of labour.. Normal birth..

Good luck in three weeks!

Whatdoesaturkeydo · 03/12/2016 07:43

Identical twins induced at 37 weeks.

Fraternal twins born at 36.6 by ELCS. They were booked to come out two weeks later, but I started to show pre-eclampsia symptoms at my final mid-wife appt. We all stayed in hospital for 8 days afterwards with my littlest DS (5lb 6oz) in NICU for the first couple of days...

DorothyHarris · 05/12/2016 17:12

Mine were 37+5 by planned section. Was very surprised I got there as everyone told me I'd probably go early. I think that many have been due to twin1 being breech so no pressure on cervix? Not sure about that though.

BillSykesDog · 13/12/2016 13:53

34+5. Went into labour naturally but had an emergency CS.

BillSykesDog · 13/12/2016 13:54

They were 6lb 6oz and 6lb 9oz at that time though. Good size.

April241 · 01/01/2017 22:19

Mine were born at 35 weeks exactly, waters broke at 4:30, forceps delivery at 15:17 and 15:28 as they were both head down. We all stayed in hospital 5 days, my girl went to SCBU straight away for 3 hours then back to me in recovery, boy went to SCBU overnight on day 3, now 3 months old!

Twinnypops · 03/01/2017 06:42

36+1. Neither went to special care :-)

MumofthreeandBean · 03/01/2017 08:49

My identicals were born at 34.2 wks by c section.
5th pregnancy, 2nd c section
Had been booked in for elcs at 37 wks because of problems with previous pregnancy and it was twins.

Started showing signs of TTTS at 33.5 wk, they kept me in and decided to deliver 4 days later. Both babies in Neonatal, one for 2 nights and the other for 4 nights.

Now got 2 lovely, healthy, bouncing 5 yos!

thenightmanageress · 03/01/2017 20:55

ID boys were born at 35 weeks by c-section
I was admitted to hospital at 33 weeks and then diagnosed with pre-eclampsia
After being transferred to another hospital that had 2 spare nicu cots we Were delivered of the boys the next morning
We had a 3 day stay in nicu before being transferred to transistional care for a further 7 days.
Now have completely crazy, wonderful, beautiful & energetic 3 year olds!

Surf25 · 03/01/2017 21:38

Posted up thread to say was booked in for induction at 36 weeks exactly during the week leading up to christmas, then twin 1 stopped growing and had reduced fetal movements so had our identical twin boys by section at 34+5. They had a few nights in NICU and then some time in transitional care but got home by day 10. All doing really well now. Hope your pregnancy is going smoothly so far, op!

timeforheroes · 05/01/2017 02:56

Non identical twins, had to have a c-section at 36+1 as the amniotic fluid was extremely low.

timeforheroes · 05/01/2017 02:57

No NICU, just the heat mat. We were home after 5 days.

Klaptout · 05/01/2017 03:23

I was taken in at 30 weeks with twins, 5 weeks,in a lot of pain due to a rather large kidney stones, 2 of them.
Both girls were both transverse, they got me to 35 weeks on gas and air and another wonderful drug.
Had a section at 35 weeks as I needed urgent surgery on my kidney, girls were 4.8 and 4.14 they had to stay in another three weeks whilst I recovered there and whilst they were getting stronger, once they had finished being tube fed and jaundiced we took them home.

MumofthreeandBean · 05/01/2017 11:39

Such a range of experiences! Seems a lot get home pretty quickly though.

I'm 19.3 and getting bigger every day, found out I am having a boy and a girl

Congratulations!

DustingOffTheDynastySuit · 05/01/2017 17:40

30.3 PROM and super-quick labour then EMCS. 7 weeks in hospital. Fit as butchers dogs both of them now.

MumofthreeandBean · 06/01/2017 18:15

PROM? Sorry new to all this?

DustingOffTheDynastySuit · 06/01/2017 20:41

SOrry! premature rupture of membranes - in other words, waters went bloody everywhere!

EMCS is emergency c-section.

All a bit dramatic at the time, but absolutely fine now.

I would mentally prepare for a premature birth, try and visit the NICU if you can and read up on expressing etc if you want to bf, but don't worry about it, there's very little you can do. Just monitor how you feel, and if you think things aren't right get yourself into the maternity ward, multiple mums don't tend to get fobbed off in my experience!

MumofthreeandBean · 07/01/2017 07:30

Thankyou, that must have been scary for you.
Hoping mine stick a while longer than that, but what will be will be.
