Just found out we are having twins!

Been looking at prams, I really don't want a side by side and I can't afford £800!

I don't like the graco stadium duo.

What other choices do I have? Have seen the kids largo duellette, can anyone recommend??

What do/did you have??

Thanks x

Only problem is we live pretty rural and there is nowhere for me to go and try these buggys out. We travelled to the nearest city an hour away and there is nothing there! The mother care had 2 twin prams and one was £1200 the other not priced much below

We've got the mountain buggy duet which is brilliant. Same width as a wheelchair so gets through most single doors easily. It now comes with the carrycot+ which can turn into world or parent-facing seats. (We have two carrycot+ and car seat attachments for sale at the moment- pm me if you want) It's been a brilliant pram, can't recommend it more highly. What type of twinnies are you having? We had dcda boys. Yesterday was fun!

Have a look where nearest proper pram centre is. Somewhere like mothercare is rubbish imo, doesn't sell anything practical just top brands. A few hour drive might be worth it to get it right first time. Where abouts in the country are you roughly, most counties have at least one large pram centre and most counties only a few hours drive maximum so should be one within that

Otherwise get newspaper and tape several sheets together to get a large pieces. Cut one to open size of pram and one to folded height and length. Do for both prams (measurements found online). Then you can see if the open size will fit through your door, and how much floor space it would take up. And try in car for folded size.

doodle Boy and girl, not due til may but I want to get organised!
Can I ask if you found the carrycots very narrow? They don't look like they will last very long

Oh and I would say for both the nipper and mountain buggy duet you don't need to buy the carrycots. They are extra cost and quite pricey for two. Plus you have to take off to fold so more space in car needed. Both prams lie fully flat so suitable from birth. A soft liner, blankets or footmuffs on pram work just as well to make cosy and last newborn to pram not needed plus can stay on for folding

MumofthreeandBean · 26/12/2016 10:06

artandco we are on the Norfolk coast, nearest pram centre about 2.5hours away.i can't last that long in a car!
Great idea with the newspaper - thankyou

Also buy second hand. Really no point in buying new.

With living in a rural area I'd go with the mountain buggy. It's easy to push with older kids over gravel etc.

doodlejump1980 · 26/12/2016 10:28

Hi, they were quite narrow, but long. Our twins were 7lbs5 & 6lbs4, and they were in the carrycots for a good 8-10 months. Nice and cosy!

doodlejump1980 · 26/12/2016 10:29

(And we could fold the pram with the carrycots still attached)

Streaky17 · 04/01/2017 12:01

For those of you with out n about nippers - was it ever unstable due to having 3 wheels?

FTM here so apologies for stupid question - Did you miss not being able see the babies as they were facing the other way (without cots) or is that a non-issue?

MumofthreeandBean · 07/01/2017 07:35

I decided to go for the mountain duet, with 2 carrycots which are parent facing and come with harness so can be used a little longer when baby is sitting.
I looked at both but I loved the carrycots and the narrow chassis of the duet.
Let's hope it lives up to expectations!

To answer your question streaky my friend told me the nipper is only really unstable when going up and down pavements, but her children are 2 yrs apart and an obvious weight difference.

Nipper was fab but friends had mountain buggy and baby jogger, all loved them so I would see what available locally in gumtree etc and go from there. We had them with cosytoes as newborns in the nipper. some people prefer 4 wheels. We put slime in the tyres and never had any problems.

Phillpot12 · 18/01/2017 20:29

P.s nipper was only a bit tippy with one in (due to other walking) when going up and down kerbs but that's the only time and once they were walking lots we used an old Phil and teds or single buggy board with buggy board and we ditched buggies early in favour of scooters/bikes etc....

hp2 · 18/01/2017 20:36

We had a baby jogger for our two. Fantastic pram gets through a standard door, easy to collapse, used it from birth. Also had a Jane tandem one really hard work to push especially as they got bigger, I actually tipped,it with them in a couple of times! Be wary of prams with proper tyres if you get a flatand you are miles away from home they are a nightmare to push with two kids in!

hp2 · 18/01/2017 20:39

Just remembered used to pull my older child along on her scooter whilst pushing the pram with one hand.

bambi2908 · 27/07/2017 15:22

Sorry to pull up an older thread, but has anyone got any thoughts on the Silver cross Wave double? We've been lucky enough to have been given two silver cross car seats and there are no adaptors for silver cross into any other make as far as I can see?
It's just so much money for the double travel system but for us to go with another travel system, and then buy two new car seats as well is basically the same price as the silver cross wave double package!

moggle · 27/07/2017 15:37

bambi that is so expensive!! You would need two carrycots as well presumably as the seats aren't suitable from newborn. If you're going to buy everything new then you are going to be spending a lot though whatever you do, especially if you want a pushchair that clips two car seats on as there aren't many of those, even if you ignore the silver cross issue.
Another issue is you'll almost certainly end up buying another buggy when the babies are a bit older as that type of buggy is a pain to travel with, they take up so much room. You'll end up wanting something more compact and easier to fold. Also tandem buggies like the Wave tend to be great for the first 9-12m and then they get very heavy to push, being so long.
Personally I'd probably go with forgetting about having a travel system - many people don't use the infant car seat in this way - especially as babies aren't recommended to stay in them for very long at a time - and have a look at twin buggies from scratch, deciding which one suits you best.

moggle · 27/07/2017 15:40

You'd need a second seat unit too... that's going to total over £1500... don't do it bambi!!
How old are you? Sounds rude, but we are 36 and lots of our friends have finished having their babies and since we told people we're expecting twins our friends are throwing stuff at us left right and centre. Just that you may be able to get secondhand maxi cosi seats for little or nothing - from friends so you know the history is sound - they will give you many more options.

bambi2908 · 27/07/2017 16:39

I know! It's a disgusting amount to pay... I think with the extra adaptors it would total around £1570 Shock
Some of my family have offered to put money towards it which is why we were looking at this one. My DH thinks the ease of having the car seats being able to eat straight into the frame would be worth the cost but I'm just not sure...how easy is it with twins to transfer them from the car seats into buggys, as opposed to just connecting the car seats straight in?
We have also been given a McLaren foldable pushchair for when they are a bit older.

dangle90 · 08/08/2017 15:46

Hi bambi! I ended up getting an icandy with everything included - car seats, ISO bases, carry cot all adapters ect for £230 on a Facebook selling page!! Couldn't believe my luck. That is so much money for a pram, my first car didn't even cost that! Hope you manage to get something cheaper
