Hi Ladies
Thanks for all your kind words on the "do you ever thread" I didn't want to post on there and spoil it for eveyone. I had my nuchal scan last night and discovered that twin 1 has a nuchal score of 3.8 and a risk of some form of chromosone problem of 1/3, he/she also has an exomphalos (hernia where his bowel & liver are outside his abdominal cavity).
Twin 2 has nuchal of 2.4 and appears visually okay at the moment and Downs risk of 1/ 204 and other trisonomy risk of 1/768.
I am going to see a consultant next week and hopefully T1 will only have this hernia which should be operable after birth. Obviously there may be other things as well but I am clinging to the 70% chance that they might not have chromosone problems.
Trying to be positive but may not be around much over next few days as have lots of people to see and things to get my head round. I am at my local EPU on Monday, seeing my midwife Tuesday/Wednesday and hopefully a consultant on Thursday.
I have to sit tight until 15 weeks to wait for an amniocentesis to check them both out. I have already been offered a termination of one or both babies but also advised to have an amnio to see if one is going to be viable. My best case at the moment is one healthy baby and one baby which will need an op after birth. Worst case is the poorly baby doesn't make it takes the healthy one with it.
Sorry if I spoil Saturday night just needed to get this off my chest.

Charleymouse I have twin boy and girl who are both absolutely fine but when I was pregnant the boy had a very bad nuchal scan of 5 mm which is extremely high. We were told by the geneticist that we had a 10% chance that the baby would be normal ie 90% chance there would be something wrong. The amnio was fine after agonising wait and we even had an echocardiogram for both which checks heart defects. What I am trying to say is don't give up hope that your baby is absolutely fine. The nuchal scan is not diagnostic only the amnio can say for sure. Good luck and my thoughts are with you as I know from first hand experience how stressful it can be. If you want to ask anything or just chat feel free.

Thanks for your mesage abena, I guess you have caught up now, pics of the boys are on my profile but thanks for posting. I occasionally scan the multiples threads and think of what I'm missing out on.

twasthenightbeforechristmouse · 24/12/2007 00:38

Obviously not the time for it but would like some advice after Christmas as have visited grave today and we have yet to put a headstone up. It would make it seem so final. DHs first visit today after funeral and doesn't like him in an unmarked grave so will sort out on early 2008. Do I mention on it he is an identical twin? not sure what to do re this one as never thought would have to do it. I know family often get a mention ie much loved son, grandson, brother etc but not sure if I should make something of the fact he is an identical twin.
Anyway merry christmas and happy new year and thank you for all your support this year.

I think you should do what you think is best, and what you want. Personally, I think it might be a nice thing to have in years to come, especially for G when he is old enough to understand he has a twin.

Hope you have a great christmas, mouse.
