Private room in hospital

Hi,

I have a vague memory from my last birth that one of the reasons they gave private rooms to women was if they had a multiple births. Just wondering, those of you who have already had twins, if you got a private room or were on the ward. I can't imagine two cots fitting into those cubicles. No appointment for a couple of weeks, so will check hospital policy then, just wondering what experiences others had. I hated the post-natal ward, so my own room would be lovely!

I was given a private room and my twins were in scbu!

We had a private room when we were in, I even got one when I had an overnight monitoring stay.

Graciescotland · 28/04/2015 22:21

On the general ward for three nights (hellish). Then in transitional care (in scbu where you room in) it was shared but there was more room for a week.

Girls are six weeks old now.

Doublethecuddles · 28/04/2015 22:22

Private room and stayed 6 nights.

WoahBodyforrrrm · 28/04/2015 22:40

I got a private room but my twins were in scbu and I think my hospital tend to keep side rooms for mums who's babies are not with them. I never thought of the logistics of two cots beside a ward bed, it would be a squash!

Seeing as you can build two people, at the same time, you definitely deserve a side room!

Congrats on the double bump, very exciting times ahead!

My friend had her twins on the ward, just the two cots squashed right up against the bed.

Hopefully there'll be one available for me! Obviously also hoping for no SCBU time for my twins, so if there are other mothers who need the space more than me, fair enough. It would be so much nicer than the ward though! I'll check hospital policy and hope for the best.

I had a private room, twins in nicu.

Currently sat in a private room three days after EMCS. I'm only in here because they are both underweight so we're officially under Transitional Care which is enhanced monitoring and support compared to the main PN ward but not as intensive as SCBU. There is another twin mum on the ward with babies of good weights and she isn't in a side room. I knew this was the hospital policy so wasn't expecting a side room but they arrived suddenly and are both small for age so although I'd rather they were a bit bigger I'm not turning down a side room! Tbh with the amount of people coming in and out you wouldn't want to share a room with me-you'd be constantly disrupted!

MumRaah · 02/05/2015 11:13

I was on the ward for 3 days

But they were full-term so no need for scbuSmile

ElizabethG81 · 03/05/2015 20:46

I got my own room and bathroom, I think it was the hospital's policy for multiple births as there just wouldn't be enough room around the beds on the wards for 2 cots. Also, they re-arranged the room for me so I could feed both at once (bed was pushed up against the wall and I sat on it like it was a sofa) - I don't think I could have fed them both at the same time on the ward.

Helish · 03/05/2015 20:49

I got a private room and DH was allowed to stay with me. It meant we didn't bother the midwives as he could lift them to me, fetch bottles, help me get to the shower etc. made a huge difference

nousernamesleft · 03/05/2015 20:53

I had a private room, after my c section, but it's only as I had lost a lot of blood and they were pumping drugs into me all night the first night.
I put both of mine in the same cot though, I was asked whether they were to be together or apart, and I insisted they shared.

littlesupersparks · 03/05/2015 21:04

Private room here. I only stayed one night though so didn't make the most of it!!

Tftpoo · 06/05/2015 15:42

Private room on maternity inpatients for 3 nights then private room on transitional care (once babies came out of NICU) for 6 nights. I really appreciated the space and the midwives set up a camp bed for DH once we were in the TC ward.

Twicethehugs · 06/05/2015 19:19

No private room for me, seems like I was unlucky!

JemFinch · 06/05/2015 20:39

I also had a private room - twins in NICU

DowntheTown · 06/05/2015 22:44

We were ordinary ward too. In 3 days (one had sugar level issues). Both ok weights, born at 36 weeks. And they shared a cot!!

FreeButtonBee · 07/05/2015 15:30

Private room with bathroom, twins were fine, was in for 5 (hellish) nights as DTS wasn't feeding well (not that staying in hospital helped much on that front, grumble grumble).

I did find it a bit isolating as I was pretty much ignored (despite having had a late afternoon C-section) and very little contact with midwives/meals not necessarily delivered etc. But the hospital was extremely busy when I was in. So that might have been exceptional.
