hi all, my DT are coming to the age when they know what a birthday is so I'm making a proper effort. when it comes to cakes do I buy one each? even after a party that leaves us with a lot of cake left (and I should lose some weight). what do other people do to make twins birthday special for each child so they don't feel like they have to share everything? thanks

I don't have twins but how about making cupcakes and decorate half for each twin, no extra cake and its still personal to both :)

Maybe you could get them a small cake each - like those mini ones you can get or you could get one cake and decorate it half n half to match the dts. Maybe even cupcakes instead of cake. I think as long as they both enjoy their party, they'll feel it was special :)

I would personally have a cake each, even a small one. I would also sing Happy Birthday to each of them.

Oh, and We try to get as many separate presents as possible, although they only understood the concept of "owning" a toy at Christmas.

But we old try and give them a cuddley toy for their cot or an item of clothing that was just for them.

yes eldest does make sense, I have fudged it the past 2 years and didn't say to any anyone or even think about it myself till we got to the name part in the song and it was just a blur of both names.
Then they started to cry for cake so we just decided to do it the once and make a better effort next time.

Mine are 11 this year and we've always had a cake each (or occasionally four cakes if their party was a different day to their actual birthday). We sing to twin 1 first on 'odd' years and twin 2 first on 'even' years! Not having their own cake or being sung to on their own are two of the big things that I've heard adult twins regretting from their childhoods. I'm sure mine will be cross about somthing else as adults but we do try to keep birthdays as fair as possible.

We do the same as flossie, down to the singing! I have been known to give them each one tier of a two tier cake, so there's the same amount of cake but they each get their own one iyswim.

I have an open book shape cake tin and this year plan to decorate a page for each of them with their favourite characters. If they are old enough to understand what a party is, why not ask them? If not I'd go for cupcakes and each chooses a colour.

Just thought, mine aren't 2 yet, when they're older they'll probably need a cake each as I hate the idea of one blowing her candles out and then re lighting them for dtd2 to have a go.
