So I've known for 4 weeks now that I am expecting mcda twins, I already have a DD8 so no baby stuff left over from her. I'm being closely monitored every two weeks as the babies are a little small at the moment. But I was wondering when other twin mums started buying things for the babies, I was thinking at about 20wks...? I've made lists of everything we feel we need, so what to get isn't an issue.

Also what Tamba courses would you recommend going on? I've already joined and can see that everything is so daunting and scary, I just don't know where to start.

First congratulations :)

I started buying when I had my abnormality scan at 21 weeks.

It's so hard isn't it as there is so much to get!!! Maybe instead of buying stuff put money aside and go on a big blow out :)

Awwww thankyou Katy, like you suggested i've been putting aside ever since we found out. So far saved about £1000, which makes a big dent into the big things, it's the little things that seem to mount up... Definitely tempting to start now, but don't want to jinx anything, I like the idea of doing it after the abnormality scan and having a blow out :)

I'm not sure about where you are, but I also waited for the asda baby event where you can get loads of stuff cheaper like sterilisers and bottles, nappies etc!!!

I remember feeling very over whelmed by it all (filled a whole room) but its best to be prepared :)

It's all very exciting

Does that say that you have 8 kids already?!

I went on the 'practical preparing for parenthood' Tamba course, which we found very useful despite already being parents, as it talked about the practicalities of having twins, plus possible events and how to deal with them (i.e. a stay in the ICU). We also get the tamba magazine and recently joined TwinsUK and got their free mag too, both of which are good reads.

Re things, I think we bought stuff later on, prob around 20 weeks onwards? But I can't really remember exactly. I didn't buy big items until a month or so before, though. (i.e. pushchair). And got as much stuff as poss from friends/2nd hand!

Congratulations! I was completley ridiculous - bought the pram at 25 weeks and refused to have it in my house and when they decided to put in an appearance at 31 weeks the cots had only just been delivered. We got most of it while they were in SCBU. I would say around 20 weeks is a more sensible way to do things!

silverangel · 05/07/2012 15:18

Oh, and were booked on the TAMBA course for when I should have been 34 weeks so never made it!

mrsdaisaku · 06/07/2012 08:53

lemele Lol no I only have one daughter who is 8 Smile. And also two step daughters. Like you I'm also looking at second hand, you can get some amazing clothing bundles on ebay... Its taken alot of will power to stop myself as we don't know for 100% if we're having boys. But definitely looks like 20weeks is a good starting point. :)

I like the sound of the TAMBA course you went on too. :)

silverangel Hope your little ones are thriving now, I must admit I'm a little apprehensive about an early appearance, my daughter made a two week early arrival, so it does make we worry with the twins as well. Thankfully we have a very good SCBU unit locally :). It's reassuring that you would also say 20 weeks, I feel a trip to IKEA will be in order around that time before I become too big to make it around the store.

Thankyou for all your advice Smile

:) brilliant!! I got all the "boring stuff" first like bottles, sterilisers etc

:)

forevergreek · 06/07/2012 11:42

Ikea is great for cots and any other furniture. Its just as good quality and lasts, but for two cots, the big changing unit/ converts to bookcase, and two sets of drawers plus accessories can easy be got for £500 instead on one and half cots only elsewhere

harrygracejessica · 06/07/2012 12:09

I started buying after the 20 week scan, I'm a member on Tamba but never did any of the courses. I have 2 sets of the monkeys but after the first set I gave everything away so had to buy it all again!!

I would start with things like 1 cot bed as they can share for a while, steriliser etc, muslins, and bouncy chairs and then go from there. I also had a cot up in the front room for naps for them so they didn't get terrorised by the others!

Tesco has a baby event on atm they've got great deals on nappies and wipes and i managed to get a good deal on a mama's and pappa's pushchair
