Twin feeding cushion advice

Hi all,

I've finally managed to get to a point with my 3 mo twins where I can feed both together (pain being the main issue until fairly recently!) so want to buy a feeding pillow. I've found 3 types, but they all look basically the same! Can anyone advise on any differences between them or if there are any others I've not heard of? I'm looking for one that will clip around me, coz my main issue with the one I've borrowed is that it won't stay put for more than a few minutes (even with one baby on it). I also have quite big boobs if that makes any difference to the use of the cushions.

So the ones I've found are:

  • EZ2 nurse (aka San Diego Bebe Twin)
  • Harmony Duo Twin Feeding Pillow
  • my brest friend twin plus

I have read a few old posts on here re cushions but they're quite out of date, so any advice will be much appreciated! Grin Also opinions on inflatable/foam.

Tyvm!

Hi - I just used a v shaped nursing cushion from Mothercare. My DT's were prem so quite small if that makes any difference.
I have read/heard that the inlatable ones are crap.
Sorry not much help - Good Luck x

DW123 · 30/06/2012 02:40

Hi - I used the Harmony one for a while. I didn't bother with the clip and pillow thing at the back tho as it just slipped - I used a normal cushion.

It was fine for me but you do need a muslin on it as the plastic gets sticky in hot weather or is cold in winter.

Have also heard the inflatable ones are rubbish but the Harmony is bulky. In the car it fits round a car seat so travelling isn't too bad!

HTH and well done on making it this far if you have had issues - should get easier now.

I've got the Brest Friend. Awful name, brilliant cushion. I feel very stable with it clipped on and sometimes wander around with them feeding on it if DD asks me to come and sit with her

I've used it since they were born and they're 4 months now and no sign that we'll stop using it yet. The only disadvantage is that once they get significantly bigger they probably wont lie comfortably on it. But by then they should be able to sit up/hold their head etc which will all make tandem feeding a bit easier...

Currently feeding on the my brest friend while typing. Brilliant cushion, mine are now 10 months and although they are quite small as were prem, they just stick their feet in the air at the back.

mummypigof3 · 30/06/2012 14:50

My breast friend too. Still in use at 6 months.

Lemele · 30/06/2012 18:10

Thanks all. Is the angle of the my brest friend cushion good for feeding? Do you feel as though they might roll off at all?

I know others have sloped tops to avoid this but thinking of the angle I use my own cushion at, I wasn't sure that would be the best angle either!

Glad to hear it is 'wearable', that will be very handy...

I had a San Diego. i hated it, could not use it at all, it was supposed to fasten round my waist but just kept slipping off. I gave it to another twin mum. I just feed using a reclined 'biological nursing' postion and did so from when mine were about 6 weeks old and could hold their heads upright. Kind of like this

Yeah that hols is great and my preference, but with DD about I need both my hands for drawing, reading books, fighting off attacks...Grin

rednellie · 30/06/2012 23:49

Oh and my two haven't fallen off the pillow despite some rather hazardous maneuvers.

ceeveebee · 30/06/2012 23:56

With strategic cushion placement I have both hands free, can mumsnet and everything! But agree it would be much harder with an older dd to entertain too

rednellie · 01/07/2012 16:02

You are way more coordinated than me ceeveebee, I salute you. Smile

Lemele · 02/07/2012 17:36

Yeah, who is it who has a photo of them feeding twins, their older daughter AND themselves all at once? Gotta love that! Grin

So I guess I'll be going for the brest friend one then. It's a shame the one I've borrowed (semi-circular thing) doesn't clip on cos that's the only real issue - it's comfy, a little low perhaps, but slides for miles. Otherwise I'd be fine without spending yet more moolah :(

That was my photo Lemele - I've privated them all again, I yo yo about putting photos up here! But yes, multi-tasking like a good un. Have you thought about trying to sew on a belt or something? It's the sort of thing my mum's good at...

ceeveebee, slight thread hijack, but how do you get in that hold without help? I tried last night as my cushion cover was in the wash and it involved my DH, a lot of nipple waving and swearing...am genuinely interested as it would be useful to be able to do it.

ceeveebee · 02/07/2012 19:30

I usually feed in bed or on a sofa. Get boobs out first. I lay twin 1 on my left side and twin 2 on my right. I pick up twin 1 and he latches on, then I lean over and roll twin 2 onto me- I keep twin 1's head in place with the crook of my arm! Once twin 2 is rolled on I grab her under her arms and hitch her up and she latches on herself. It's a bit tricky and can involve some grabbing of babygros but they don't seem to mind. Maybe I'll get DH to video (fully clothed of course!!)

rednellie · 02/07/2012 19:58

You so should! And this is why my mate with older twins reckons she's going to make her fortune selling babygrows with handles on them.

I'm just not sure a) my boobs are the right shape for it and b) I can do it quick enough without DD launching a well meaning attack before they're properly attached...hmmm

Lemele · 03/07/2012 15:27

Ahh I thought it was you red. I discovered how to add 'mates' on here so am just showing pics to them (i.e. people active on multiples thread) instead of being public nowadays. :)

Ok so people who have the brest friend pillow - where did you get it and how much was it?! There seem to be very few suppliers and price varies hugely!!

ceeveebee that sounds impressive. I too am a fan of babygrow grabbing but there's little chance I could get mine to latch on like that (at the mo at least).

OP posts:
Lemele · 03/07/2012 15:29

Oh and I have thought about sewing on a belt or something but the pillow is a bit battered (tearing in half - need to sew it!) and not really big enough anyway.

OP posts:
ceeveebee · 03/07/2012 16:36

Yes, you do need to make sure that they have a good latch and that they're used to feeding in that postion individually first before attempting it togeter!

Right, I may regret this but here we go:

rednellie · 03/07/2012 16:59

THAT IS AWESOME! You'll be glad you did that in years to come - something to show/embarrass the two with. I've also realised from watching that that I do it slightly differently. Right, off to do some homework...

Lemele · 03/07/2012 17:17

That is fab! Grin

Also repeating myself here but, people who have the brest friend pillow - where did you get it and how much was it? Best i can find is amazon at £75 but I'm sure I saw it somewhere for around £40...Confused

rednellie · 04/07/2012 04:00

I got mine from a twin mum second hand. She gave me that and two car seats for $50. I think I was very very lucky...

Lemele · 04/07/2012 12:56

I think you could be right red!! Shock

OP posts:
twotimestwo · 04/07/2012 19:22

Yes Amazon was where I got mine, hopefully once I finish with it I should be able to sell it on and get some money back.

Lemele · 04/07/2012 22:52

Despite a lady from Home Start saying she might be able to get me one on loan I have given in to stress and tears and bought one off Amazon. Hey, at least it's blue. I like blue.

:(
