DH wants to consider having more children this year! I am a bit scared about the possibility of having a second set of twins and wondered if anyone has them or knows someone who has them and any words of wisdom on what its like (other than difficult!)

A colleague of mine did a story about a couple who had twin boys then when they were 16mo they had another set of twin boys Shock so she had four under 2!
My colleague said the mum was totally unfazed and really realxed about it all, this was what God had given them and they always wanted a big family. 24 nappies a day and a quad buggy. And it was really hard to do the shopping as everyone stopped them to comment lol.
I would have thought the hardest thing about that scenario would be that none of the children would be walking ever so well, so you’d have to do a lot of carrying about. Not an issue with a bigger gap tho.
Hats off to you deha! that’s very impressive.

We waited with trying for another until the boys were out of nappies and walking well (didn't use buggy anymore at all) because I think it must be really hard otherwise.

Having said that, I guess every age gap has its own challenges and advantages, so at the end of the day, you'll just have to get through it whether it is a 14 month or 4 year gap.

I can also honestly say that the second lot never had the same 'bombshell' effect on our lives, the house, etc as the boys had. I was never as tired, always better prepared ('better', by no means 'well'), and a lot less shockable than the first time round ('yeah? she smells? so?')...

But thanks for all the compliments :) (have to come back more often ...Wink)

My aunty sheila had 3 sets of identical twin girls Grin all in 6 years.
I know the odds are against it as she was in quite a few magazines and papaers in the 60's when she had them.

ShockGood lord!

deha · 28/02/2006 15:00

piffle - I think the odds to win the lottery are better than to have three sets of identical twins, all the same sex!

your poor aunt.

sandyballs · 28/02/2006 15:06

Particularly identical Shock. Am I right in thinking that non identical is hereditary and identical is pot luck. Or lots and lots of luck in your aunt's case Grin

Hi Harrogate mum, I live in the same town as you and am constantly looking out for a woman with twin boys about 15 months!

No experience, but my boss's friend had twin boys, then a girl then fell pregnant accidentally and it was triplets!

Piffle · 28/02/2006 18:03

And they all got married within 20 months of each other
Poor Uncle - very expensive

Piffle · 28/02/2006 18:03

After that they decided to stop trying for a boy Grin

Nan had several sets- stories vary but definitely at least 3, probably 4. She had 16 kids in all though. Dad was the youngest boy, one girl after him.

A lady at our church had 2 sets of twins under 2!!!

A lady in Wokingham had a boy, then twin girls, then triplet girls!!!!!

Apparently you are more likely to have twins the older you are & the more pregnancies you have had?

FrumpyGrumpy · 01/03/2006 19:58

If I'd had twins first time round I don't think I would have stopped there. But I guess I would have waited til they were over 3 so they were ready for it. Its heart in the mouth stuff thinking about twins again though eh!!! Good luck with it.

harrogatemum · 03/03/2006 13:14

Hey northerner - you are unlikely to see me as I have started hiding at home since the boys whinge so much if I spend more than an hour out in the buggy. However I can be found most Friday mornings pushing the terrors around Asda (end of the month) or Waitrose (start of the month). I now boycott Sainsburys as they dont have any trolleys for two toddlers to sit in and wont reply to my complaints about it! I am the tall one with the bags under her eyes!!!

I know several people who have twins as a "third" baby. Our local doctor had twin girls, then triplet girls!
