Pushchair for 7 month olds

Hi

I have an icandy peach blossom and it has been great to use with carrycots and then car seats for my twins but as my twins are 7 months now I find the buggy (normal) seats just aren't as good so I'm looking for a new pushchair. The main issue I have is when the baby in the back lower down buggy seat is crying I pretty much have to take the top seat off to get him out as there's no room to go straight to him and just grab him! It sort of works if I have the one at the bottom reclined and the one at the top upright but I'd quite like to find a pushchair where even with both reclined there's room to get at them both. I can't get a side by side as it wouldn't for through my door.

any suggestions? I quite like the look of the Baby Jogger Citi Select twin but don't know if I'll have the same issue?

Have you seen the mountain buggy duet? It's a side by side double but only 63 cm wide so same width as a single. Sorry, can't help beyond that as not had my twins yet so just been shopping recently for a side by side. No experience of using them yet!

I've heard that the Baby Jogger City Mini Double fits through doors even though it's a side by side too.

My preference is side by side as they get bigger because in tandems the child at the back won't be able to see as well and get grumpy and start kicking the one in front (witnessed several times with friend's two)!

I could have written this post! My DTs also coming up to 7 months and I have the same problem with getting DTD in and out of the lower seat, its a real pain. I am planning to get a narrow side by side too, and mountain buggy as on my list. Marking my place for other words of wisdom!

I got the Baby Jogger City Mini when they got a bit bigger and it fits through most doors even standard doors in my house, it's great and so easy to fold. I haven't seen the mountain buggy but have heard that it's good too.

I think my friend has the city select (toddler and baby use) and it sounds like it will have the same problem. However, the images on line look like the seats can be changed to avoid this (although one looks like you'll have 2 people kicking each other). Why not go to a shop and try it out with the dts in?

How wide is your door? Also what do you want to do with your buggy? Lots of steep rugged walking or urban use? Is it essential that it has car seat attachments or would you still use the icandy when you wanted to do that?

If you search for the mountain buggy duet on here it has mixed reviews although 63.5cm is a great width. City mini double is 76cm, out n about nipper is 77cm and maclaren twin triumph is 74cm. We have both of the last 2. We were given the out n about and there are some doors it won't do. It is however wonderful to push. We bought the maclaren on ebay as I wanted something to travel with that I wouldn't be heartbroken if it got broken by being thrown on a plane and something flat to keep in the car so I didn't spend even longer getting us ready to go out (not so essential now but a lifesaver in the early days). The maclaren seems to go through just about every door tried although it then gets stuck on my sister's radiator! I'm not so keen on it to push but is good for a 2nd buggy.

Good luck, it's a real pain.

Well we went to view the mountain buggy duet and nearly bought it but then the lady said that in 2 weeks the out n about nipper new version is coming out which is as small as the mountain buggy duet and will fot through a single door. It's £200 cheaper so we're going for that one!

Anyone wants to know about the Mountain Buggy give us a shout - I've got one - the nippers are only 6 weeks so we're using carricots but we've got the buggy seats too (had them on last week as the weather was nice and it was handy not having to reattach the carricots every day, as the small people nap in them). It's narrow enough to get through most doors and if you switch the front wheels to the unlocked position it'll pretty much turn on the spot.

That's exactly why I stopped using the iCandy! I went for a city mini. It fits through my front door which is great when I have walked them to sleep. Fits in car but has a fiddly strap when folded. Great round town but I use a hand me down mountain buggy terrain for off road stuff. Good luck - its an expensive search.

I've got a duet (not that it matters now as OP is very sensibly going for the out n about!), but I just wanted to say I LOVE IT.

Those mixed reviews on mn are a bit weird - most of the things they complain about aren't there on the newest versions and I've not had any problems with it (I'm fairly tall and have narrow doors). I use it with the DTs and their DD and we get out and about in all sorts of combos. We didn't buy the carrycots and haven't found we needed them...I sometimes use a Phil and Ted carry bag thingie and shove that in, very handy as it has handles so good for carting one of the twins around...anyway, I'm waffling, but I do LOVE MY DUET.

(beyoglu, we have to stop agreeing with everything each other says. It's getting embarrassing. Grin And come join us on the postnatal thread...)

Just resurrecting this thread - I have been looking at alternatives for my iCandy Peach as its getting to be a real pain now that my DTs are 9mo. Anyway I was interested to see comment re new nipper - all the websites are saying the width is 77cm which is a lot wider than the duet - did you get the Nipper and what do you think of it?

I am considering upgrading to the new Peach 2 as the lower seat is further back, bigger and sits totally upright - but it will cost c£250 for the new bars and seat, and the new colours don't even match!

Handsfullandrunningforgold · 08/08/2012 12:40

We have the City Jogger mini - it is really good. Very easy to steer with 1 hand so is good for when they both want to get out and walk. Both seats lie flat but come out further than the handle bar so bash your knees which is a pain.
There is plenty of growing room in the seats. my DT's are 2 and have lots of space.
I hate the shopping basket, mine has a hole in it where it drags on the floor.
