Reusable nappies

Am I crazy wanting to use reusable nappies with twins? Will I be washing nappies all day and regret the decision?

I have always wanted to use reusable nappies. My plan was to use disposables for about 2-3 weeks after the birth then move onto Bambino Mio Solo nappies.

Any advice/warnings???

Not had twins, but did have 2 in washable nappies for a while. If you have a tumble drier I think it is very doable and will save you a lot of money over disposables. I found it saved some clothes washing as they leaked much less than disposables.

I have no drier and the house was full of nappies drying very slowly in the winter time. Just get a few nappies to start with then you will see which ones you prefer, I ended up with a mixture of shaped nappies, pocket nappies, and hemp/bamboo ones for nights.

I used disposables the first few weeks too as I had sections plus with twins they may be on the smaller side so you could skip the tiniest cutest washables and go straight to birth-to-potty nappies if you wanted.

Again, not had twins but do have 2 little ones in cloth nappies at the same time.
It's a good idea to go for eco disposables until perhaps around 8lb mark then either into birth to potty nappies or sized nappies that will last a while (rather than growing out of them in a matter of weeks). Also gives you a bit of time to adjust to family life with one less chore.
We don't have a tumble dryer so there's always nappies hanging around in our house too. Not a problem to us.
You'll get into the swing of things after a while. I put a wash on for during the night (economy 7) and hang out every morning while waiting for kettle to boil.
Again i'd second the advice of not commiting to one brand. I have found Motherease really good, but have also got on with Bumgenius, Fuzzi Bunz and lots of others. Perhaps go for a trial deal to start off with. Lots of internet nappy companies do this (e.g. 'fill your pants'). Or buy some second hand ones to try out. I've not tried Bambino Mios as any reviews that I read were not very positive, and a couple of friends didn't get on with them at all after buying the full set.
Good luck with everything. Twins are so special.

I've got a DD and 9 week old twin boys - and we've always used reusables! I don't think they're much faff and you save so much money.

I think the Nappy Lady's website is the best for advice. You can get a consultation and they really do look at your situation and advise on what would be best/how many etc. I use a combo of flat terry squares and shaped nappies. The flat squares are great as they dry in a flash, but are a pain once your little one starts trying to escape during nappy changes, hence why we've got shaped ones for older.

I've got these and these. They're both brill, wash well and are all doing great on their second outing with the boys. The kissaluvs dry much quicker then the bimbles. Also, if you don't have a dryer then try and avoid bamboo - it takes way longer to dry then cotton. When they were newborns I just used a muslin square so I could make smaller nappies. HTH, any other questions let me know.

I only had a 14 month gap so had 2 in nappies for a long time and it was fine, just got into a routine, washed them alternate days and air dried as tumbling tends to wear them out quicker. As your babies are probably going to be small to start with and for a fair amount of time I'd buy some small nappies/loads of muslins 2nd hand.

I have twins and use reuseables half of the time. I use disposables overnight and when we are out as a compromise. I don't have a drier so I used the quicker drying nappies like Smartipants, Bumgenius and Fuzzibunz. Definitely worth doing!

BTW - I get mine from Fill Your Pants - great site. Good luck

I'd also recommend the nappy lady website to get some tailor made advice for your situation. No hard sell either so worth a look. For what its worth I used bumgenius birth to potty one's which were great.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I really appreciate it. I will do more research before I make a decision.

Also, gardenpixie, if you fancy a natter with other expectant twin mums theirs a lovely thread - Twins Club 4 now, I think - that is worth a gander. Good luck with it all.

I used Bambino Mio with my twin boys until they started nursery / refused to keep clothes/nappies on at ~15months. I probably wouldn't have chosen that brand but was lucky enough to be given them by a friend. We did have some leakage problems & used ecodisposables overnight for a while.

A friend used nappies with a similar `birth to potty' popper system to that of the Solo. Worked well but was very bulky on a newborn.

We used Itti Bittis for 6 months with our twins (from about 2 weeks old).

LOVED them but found them a bit revolting once the non -bf poos began.

We still have them if you are interested in buying a set!
