Hi I had my scheduled 12 week scan today (I am however 13+2) on my twins and I have been left even more flustered and bewildered than before.
I was first told that my twins LOOK as tho they only have one placenta and LOOK as if they are in one sac...........making them mo/mo right?! I have been told that because they are most likely identical I have to have scans every 2 week's from now but other wise wasn't told much about anything and thus leading to the bewilderment lol.
Also for my dates my babies are measuring 13 +weeks but length ways they are measuring 15 weeks +....I've never heard of twins measuring bigger than their dates unless something like g diabetes was going on.

Any advice and experiences would be great as I was handed a waste of scan cards and told see you in two weeks without being told what's going on..

Hello - congratulations. I have non id twins so slightly different but my 2 were both always bigger than average at scans. We were never told that they were measuring a certain weight for their dates just that they were big babies. Are you and your oh tall ?
We saw a mw and consultant after every scan and they reassured us that everything was ok but we were scanned every 4 weeks after 20 weeks.

I am sure they would have told you if there were any concerns, try not to worry.

Good Luck

Hi, me and my husband aren't particularly tall but I suppose our little girl is lol
I didn't realise that I was supposed to area midwife/consultant after every scan or was that just for you specifically x

I had DC/DA (non-id) twins.

I measured slightly big for dates all the way through (and date was brought forward by a week at 12 week scan - there's no way they were conceived a week before I know they were conceived!).

I had a section at 38+1, which I know can only have been 37+1 really. My babies were a very healthy, though not huge, 5lb 13oz and 6lb 3oz.

Unless the sonographer/midwife seems worried about their size, I don't think you need to worry. The 'correct' size for dates is only an average, so some babies will be smaller than and some bigger than that.

I think 2 week scans are normal if they think the pregnancy is MC/MA as there is an increased risk of TTT (though I think the chances of this are very slim and they'll look out for symptoms to catch any problem).

Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy and enjoy being a mum of twins Grin. It's one he'll of an adventure Grin

Hi and congratulations!

Mine are MCDA but there was some deliberation in the beginning as to whether or not there was a membrane at 8 week scan, scan at FMC at 12 weeks you could see the membrane. Then had scans every two weeks from 16 weeks to check for TTTS. If they are mo-mo I think they will scan you every two weeks from now because of other complications that can arise.

Don't know anything about the size issues I'm afraid.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Hi

Congratulations!

I had non id girl twins and I booked an appointment with the consultant after each scan. I absolutely think this is worth doing and was conveyed to me as general good practise - nothing to do with having any specific problem.

Gd luck with your pregnancy x

I'm pregnant with MCDA twins, and have had around 14 or 15 scans up till now, I am 32 weeks pregnant. They scan regularly to check for Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. They take measurements from the blood flow in babies heads to make sure everything is ok. If you register with TAMBA online, you can request a booklet with info about TTTS.

It is a worry, but you'll be closely monitored and hopefully it won't be a concern.

If your twins are mcma, I believe they aim to deliver around 34 weeks due to possible problems with cord entanglement. It is very rare to be carrying this type of twins

Good luck, hope all goes well for you

xx

p.s. From the first scan they discovered I was having twins, I was put on iron supplements. They do this routinely at my hospital, but I don't think all hospitals do. If you start feeling a bit blah and generally no energy etc, I would ask for them, my iron levels are still on the low side even though I've been taking these for 22 weeks x
