Hi Fatima, I saw your post and wanted to just wish you loads and loads of luck with the IVF.
I remember so clearly being in your shoes and having the same discussion with my DH before we started our first cycle of ICSI and what we should do. It was an enormously hard decision and initially my DH was very against the idea of having 2 put back. However, when we looked at the statistics, we decided that the odds were so much better of having a baby if 2 were transferred than just 1, that it was madness not to. We read a lot of the bumpf they gave us and actually it really irritated me that they were trying to persuade people against a double transfer by comparing 2 cycles (1 fresh emby, 1 frozen) of SET with a single cycle of 2 fresh embys and the similar success rates (when actually there was still something like 15% better odds with a double and of course the cost of just 1 cycle compared with 2!!!!). We understood the health risks involved with a multiple pregnancy and why they now try to encourage SET but for us, we just wanted to increase our odds as much as possible. We were going private and didn't have limitless supplies of cash for several cycles.
We signed our forms agreeing to 2 embys and on the day of transfer they again discussed the increased risk of a multiple as I am 29 and it appeared that our main issue was male factor infertility, but we decided to go for it. I'm glad we did because 2 weeks later we found out the treatment had worked when we got 2 little lines on our HPT!
I am now 28 weeks pregnant with two little boys and am so very very happy. We didn't expect to be so lucky and I didn't even buy an HPT until the night before we were due to test - I just assumed I would start to bleed and the dream would be over, but it worked for us. I don't regret having 2 put back. Yes I'm the size of a house (most people I meet say they never had a bump this big when they were full term with their singleton!!) but I've been blessed so far with an extremely easy pregnancy. I was nauseous for the first 14 weeks but I was never actually sick (and symptoms started 3 days before our HPT when I got 2 migraines having never suffered from them before) and I have been extremely tired - physically I find everything difficult now, but everyone has different pregnancies. Just because you might have multiples does not mean that you will have a horrific pregnancy or that symptoms will be a hundred times worse. Lots and lots of my friends had a much rougher first trimester than I had.
We made the mistake of tempting fate and replacing my Fiat Grande Punto with a Nissan Juke just a week before doing our HPT which though a 5 door car, has a teeny boot. This somewhat limited our choice of travel system but we are able to get the iCandy Peach Blossom chassis and one of the carrycots in the boot (the other will just have to sit in the front passenger seat). I'm sure the 2 regular seat units will fit with the chassis in the boot when the time comes too. We assume that like most parents we'll probably progress to a smaller (unbrella fold) buggy at some point in the first year anyway, which will easily fit behind the front seats on the floor, so not a big worry. Unless you have a sports car or a convertible with a glovebox sized boot, I think you'll probably manage. However, our boys haven't arrived yet so I can't speak with much authority yet!! We also live in a 3 bed bungalow (though 1 of the rooms is teeny and a general dumping ground!) and the second bedroom isn't that big but will have to do for now.
Sorry for the rather long post! Lots and lots of luck with your treatment, I hope it's a success for you - I had weekly acupuncture and reflexology before, during and after treatment which I firmly believe really helped. (especially the reflexology, which I even had the afternoon after ET) If you can afford it, or can negotiate a good price, find a proper reflexologist (rather than one in a beauty salon) and give it a go. By all means PM me if you need any further info or advice
