When to start maternity leave?

Hi

I'm wondering when everyone throws in the towel and goes on maternity leave.

I'm 28 weeks with non-id twins and so far everything has been progressing just nicely.

I've been feeling pretty invincilbe, but I think those days are coming to an end Hmm

I work from home 2 days a week, but for 3 days a week I have a 140 mile round trip, 2 hour each way commute.

Today I feel breathless and achey. And sitting on the office chairs makes me REALLY ichy!! I'm wondering how much longer I can carry on for. Obviously I don't want to go too soon as it will limit my time off after they arrive.

TIA

I'm 36+2 with non -id twins and stopped at just under 33 weeks (although official date was 2 weeks later because of holidays). To be honest I was struggling by then, but I have suffered with alot of sickness throughout my pregnancy which contributed to making work difficult. Also, when I had crossed the 30 week mark my bump started to feel so heavy and I really started to feel the strain! I imagine I would have found such a long commute to work as yours a nightmare to be honest!

When were you planning on taking leave originally?

Blush I put week 38 on my maternity leave request form! Well, I had no idea when I would go off, but I had to put a date Grin

I'm feeling heavy and breathless these days and the office chairs make me itch when I get warm. Apart from that I'm loving it! Wink

The best bit of advice I got during pg was from a midwife who pointed out that at 28 weeks you are carrying the same weight in baby as a full term singleton pg. So I stopped working at 28 weeks. Like you I was working from home 3 days a week before that, but I do remember that my final day of commuting was very very difficult, I'm glad I didn't leave it any later.

Of course I hope you stay well and the babies stay in as long as possible, whatever you do, but I do attribute my having made it to 38 weeks to the amount of rest I had between 28 and 38 weeks. And although of course it makes a difference to how much time you have with them afterwards, don't undervalue the benefit of being well rested before they arrive!
