Please help me! (Tandem pushchairs)

I've searched and am blue in the face, the tandem pushchairs suitable for newborn twins are way out of my price range. Im looking for a tandem pram under £300, not a double pushchair as these are too wide.
I really need some help as my boys are nearly 3 weeks old and without a pram i cant go out! (DP is back at work so no car).

I found one in argos for 150 (saftey 1st) but have read bad reviews on it..
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, have you considered buying second hand? eBay is great for prams, something that's out of your price range new may well be affordable used? Just a thought!

TheVisitor · 28/03/2011 16:50

Twinsclub online is a good place to find this sort of thing out. here

Milkybrew · 28/03/2011 17:11

Have you looked at the britax B dual? I believe it is suitable from birth and online it's available from £299 if you shop about.

5inthebed · 28/03/2011 17:18

Graco Quattro Tour Duo? It can also take two car seats.

holidays2010 · 28/03/2011 23:41

Thanks i'll check out that link.

i wasnt sure if those were suitable from birth in both seats, i'll shop around see if i can find them cheap.

i'd look at ebay but i can only use my phone for internet so might make it a bit difficult.

Thanks again for the suggestions, keep 'em coming please! :)

Both seats are suitable from birth according to the info. Shame you are limited to a tandem pram as you getter better doubles side by side.

holidays2010 · 29/03/2011 14:02

Isnt it more expensive with the car seat? I dont really need a car seat, we have two already, one a graco, other is chicco.

If we cant find a suitable/Offordable tandem we may just have no choice but to get a double.

Hi holidays, have you looked at the britax b dual yet? I had a quick look whilst on kiddicare and definitely seems suitable for twins from birth. It's worth shopping about though as new colours have been released meaning the discontinued colours are reduced and much better value!

PrincessScrumpy · 29/03/2011 19:16

I had a very strong opinion that I wanted a tandem - then I tried them. I didn't like the lack of space the child at the back got and how they handled and have surprised myself by falling for the out and about nipper. Although it's a double it's really narrow and not hugely expensive but feels like it is. Also, on really narrow doors, you can unclip a wheel at the back, get through then clip it back on - not ideal but do-able and makes it flexible.

holidays2010 · 29/03/2011 21:45

Thank you milky and princess, re the britax i did look, i believe it was a bit expensive but will look for those discontinued ones! thanks
As for the double - will take a look at the nipper, thanks for the info!

Just wanted to say thanks again for all your responses, it's really appreciated! I'll post back once i've searched..

Have you looked at the Out N About Double Nipper? It is a side by side but as far as I know, the narrowest on the market. I had one and it fit through my front door and all shop doors. It was suitable from birth (you can get little newborn inserts which offer a bit more support for babies) and I loved it. I think if you go on any of the twin websites, it is always the most recommended.

Thanks mandy, princess recommended that one to me, i've looked quickly and it does seem to be the best selling. If what you say about it being the narrowest on the market is true then it may end up being the one i buy if i cant find a tandem.
Do you know how practical it is to take on the bus?

OP posts:
Mandy21 · 30/03/2011 12:30

It depends which type of bus operates close to you. To be honest, I didn't use the bus very often with it, but on the rare occasions I did, it was quite tricky. If you have modern, single decker buses, they tend to have a relatively wide opening either at the front or the middle which you can then use without having to fold up the pushchair. However, if you tend to use the old fashioned double decker buses, I think they have usually have quite a narrow door at the front, or a hand rail which effectively cuts the opening in half, meaning that you'd have to get the children out, and fold up the pushchair to get on. If the children weren't both walking, I think that would be very tricky. It folds flat from front to bottom if you see what I mean, the folded size is the same size as the open pushchair, its just flatter (as opposed to say a maclaren side by side pushchair where both seats come into the middle) so its still quite big to carry. Hope that makes sense.

holidays2010 · 30/03/2011 12:40

Yes it does. Well the bendy (207) buses are what i'll be using, just to get my DD to school until i (finally) take my driving test. Knowing the school run is especially busy i'll have to take an earlier bus too i guess..

Hi holidays, just had a quick look albeit on my phone so dont know how to do a link, but tesco direct have the B dual on offer! 300 from 550! Possibly only the red colourway but comes with both seats and a raincover. Worth a look?!

holidays2010 · 31/03/2011 00:39

Oh thanks milky! will look now.

OP posts:
holidays2010 · 31/03/2011 11:02

The Graco one works out too expensive because i'd have to buy the car seats too.

But i've bookmarked the Britax b-dual in tesco, i am hoping to find something abit cheaper but looks doubtful. Maybe theres some good condition 2nd hand ones..

OP posts:
Milkybrew · 31/03/2011 11:49

Have a look on eBay! There's always good condition prams on there as people seem to get bored and buy something new a few months down the line! Or do you shop in tesco? Have you any clubcard vouchers to use? Or if you've never shopped with tesco direct there's often say 10% discount for new customers if you have a look online! They are my best money saving tips anyway-can you tell money is a bit tight at the mo?! Buying off eBay will obviously depend on where you live, as most will be pick up only. I think you mentioned bendy buses so I'm guessing west London, hopefully they'll be something nearby! Must be awful to be stuck in at home!

holidays2010 · 31/03/2011 14:01

well everything is double the cost with twins, but nothing changes wage wise!
Anyway - have asked DP to look for 2nd hand prams in meantime.

i was becoming fed up around week two but i'm used to being stuck in now. It's just becoming inconvienant now - having no pram or driving license! :P

holidays2010 · 01/04/2011 12:32

So have come to a descision, the tandem is quite expensive and DP doesnt like the look of it so we're going to go for the baby weaver pushchair. its a double, 3 wheeler and looks sturdy so i'm happy.

thanks everyone for your help, really appreciate it! :)
