Tandem buggy for newborn twins?

Jojay · 02/02/2011 18:22

I'm expecting twins, and we've decided we need a tandem style buggy to fit round the side of our house and into the back garden.

They seem pretty hard to track down for 2 newborns but I@ve come across the iCandy Pear and the Leebruss ABC / OBaby Zoom (which seem to be the same thing?)

Anyone know of any others I should be looking at, and any views on the above?

Muy initial thoughts are that the iCandy looks pretty cramped for 2, and the Zoom looks a bit better, but I haven't seen either in rl, only pics online.

I want something really comfy for the twins as I think they'll have most of their daytime sleep in there, due to preschool and school runs, so carrycots would be good.

Thanks Smile

have a look at the britax b dual. Newborns can go in either seat and the top seat will face either way. Its fairly light, good handle height and moves nicely. They are usually in the larger mothercare stores and the prices have really come down. The second seat is an added option to buy. It is bulky to fold down though, so you need a big boot! HTH

Ooh, that Baby Jogger looks nice! I already have the BJ City Mini single which I love, so that's a good start!

Thanks Grin

We have the iCandy, the carrycots aren't very big - my DTs fitted in it up to about 4 months, and they were fairly average sized babies.

Whichever you get, buy second hand if possible - esp carrycots which won't get as much use as you think they will.

Hi Jojay firstly congratulations on expecting twins...its amazing being a twin mummy! I have 14 month old identical twin girls who are my first and have enjoyed every min of twin motherhood! :)

We have a jane powertwin for our girls and i have found it brilliant and would highly recommend it!... I was the same as you and wanted a tandem pushchair rather than a side by side when we found out we were expecting twins, as they are far more pratical!...the jane powertwin is firstly great for newborn twins and as you can attatch the two carseats onto it for the first few months (and im not 100%, so you might have to check this as we never used them...but im pretty sure you can buy carrycots that can attach to the frame too) Then when they are a little older from 6 months+ it is a normal tandem pushchair with reclinable seats, the back seat reclines all the way to flat and has 3 different positions and the front has 2 different positions, so fab when they want a sleep when out!

We got ours in the sale too, so it wasnt badly priced...but it does work out quite expensive with the carseats too...but then again most twin pushchairs are quite pricey anyway! I love my powertwin...defo something you should look into! Hope I have helped.

Thanks for that twinmummy.

I had a look at a Jane today, along with a few others and it's definitely a contender!

Ophelia - good point about the carrycots. They don't last long do they? Ebay is the way forward I think!

:) glad youve looked into it...hope you find one soon! When are your twins due?...and are they identical?

shoshe · 04/02/2011 18:20

I have a b dual, it is brilliant ( I am a Childminder and have been through a variety of doubles)

I love the way that both children can be in lie flat position. It is lovely to push as well.

Jojay · 04/02/2011 20:23

twinmummy - I'm not due until 4th August, though realistically they'll probably come sooner.

I only found out there were two on Monday! Bit of a shocker as we already have Ds1 and 2, and we thought 3 was pushing our luck, but we'll get by, and we're really excited now.

Not sure if they're identical or not. They're in seperate placentas, but we don't know the sex yet, so it could go either way.

It's all such a minefield! After 2 kids already I thought I knew everything I needed to know - now I realise I know nothing about any of this at all!!

Thanks Shoshe - I saw a B Dual today too. I used to have a Phil and Ted's which was great (for baby and toddler), so I'm not against that style in principle. Another contender!

Yes i can relate to your shock jojay...i can still remember clearly now going to our scan and finding there were 2 in there! Shock I enjoyed my pregnancy fully however and was very lucky not to get much sickness...hope you are not getting much!

My girls arrived at 32 weeks, so 8 weeks early altogether...i went into a natural labour and had to go for an emergency cs. There is a high risk of premature labour with twins, which im sure you have been told already!
If your twins have their own placenta then they are likely to be non-identical...as mine were in seperate sacs, but shared a placenta which made them identical...but you will be having plenty more scans ahead of you to be sure! :)

I am also in abit of a minefield atm too after finding out im pregnant again! Shock My dp already has a dd too, so this will be my 3rd but our 4th...i am only 8 weeks, so havent had a scan yet...so hoping all is well with baby and pretty sure there is only one in there this time...would be very spontaneous to have another set of identical twins! Confused

Wow! Contratulations Twinmummy! I had less than 2 years between my boys and while the first few months are tough - though probably not as bad as with newborn twins - the family dynamic is great now and they are such good mates.

They squabble too of course, but when push comes to shove, they are devoted to each other, and they now share a room after going on about bunk beds for ages!

Good luck with it all Smile

I've got the I candy peach blossom and love it, but it was very expensive. My id twin girls are 3 months old and still in the carrycots but they are growing quite fast Smile

Congratulations by the way Grin I too am loving being a twin mum. Xtwinmummyx my consultant said the chances of having id twins again is 1 in 200!

xtwinmummyx · 05/02/2011 14:46

Thankyou jojay and lavitabellissima...i will keep you posted, have my scan beginning of march so will let you know then whether we are expecting just the one this time around or whether we will be in for another shock! Shock

Yes jojay, i can imagine the first year will be tough with them all so young, but defo must be nice watching them grow up so close! Must be lovely that yours get on so well, with sharing a room aswell :) How old will your 2 be when the twins arrive then?

Twins are defo so special! So lovely to watch them developing together. Hard work sometimes, but we are very lucky! :o

Another person with the iCandy Peach Blossom. Absolutely love it. It definitely has its limitations but then I think all prams do. My sister has a Jané for her twins and it seems to be permanently getting punctures, which my iCandy doesn't/can't have (doesn't have pressurised tyres).

Loved the carrycots in the first few months, my girls slept in them during the day in their first few weeks so we used them at home a lot as well as to go out. They outgrew them by about 5 months but by then they felt ready to be looking around as we went out, it was really fun to have them in the seats. I got the car seat adaptors as well and as I'm in London, and parking is hit and miss (can be round the corner), it's essential for getting the girls in and out of the car/home.

We live in a flat and have a narrow doorway, so we had to get a tandem pushchair. The iCandy Peach Blossom was the narrowest, shortest and lightest on the market. It was very expensive and we were lucky to have our in-laws help us with the cost. When we were in John Lewis ordering the pushchair, the car seats, the car seat bases, it felt like we were spending a fortune. After ringing it all up on the till the shop assistant asked us if we wanted any accessories and we said no. Big mistake, get the cup holder!

Baby Jogger City Select - I love it!

hippy3 · 20/02/2011 10:05

had to join in have juts soent literally a MONTH researching, trying out and generally driving myself mad deciding what twin pushchair to buy.

Top contenders were the I candy each, the Jane twin pro, and the baby jogger....tried all three out, infact we were given a jane twin pro, it was quite heavy. I candy was really nice, but there did not appear to be much space between the two seats? for when they were a bit bigger...so ended up with the Baby city jogger. And LOVE it. Its light so so easy to put up and down... Ill be using the pram when I am on my own...as we have slings for the two of them when my DP and I are together.

Happy shopping....congrats on the twnis..I have to be honest searching for a pram was one of the hardest decisions to make....! harder than buying our house ! Smile

Jojay · 23/02/2011 22:20

Good to hear good reports of the Baby Jogger - I think it'll be the one Smile

Thanks all
