If you were expecting twins, how long would you keep working for?

Just found out today that I'm expecting twins, DC3 and 4 for us.

My head is spinning with all sorts, but I wondered how long you managed to keep working for?

I work 3 days a week but it's quite a physical job.

TIA Smile

My cousin worked til 29 weeks with hers, but she had a PT office job. She only stopped because she got signed off due to high blood pressure and threatened premature labour. She eventually had them at 34 weeks.

I would just see how you go, but don't be afriad of saying when something is too much for you, and be prepared to finish before you may have planned to.

Forgot to say congratulations! My cousin say's twins are hard work but are definatly more than twice the fun!

delphinedownunder · 31/01/2011 23:39

i worked until 31 weeks with mine. I had planned to work until 34 weeks, but my blood pressure got too high. They came at 38 weeks and were massive - 6.5 and 7.2. I was huge.

Congratulations!
I worked until 31 weeks. I had an hour's commute every day so I was glad to stop when I did. Girls didn't turn up until 40 weeks though so I had a lot of time to relax beforehand - shame you can't store it up!

GibberingGinger · 01/02/2011 12:38

I worked up until 35 weeks, and had then at 35+5. Was 42 weeks with DD1 and had stopped at 35 weeks and really regretted stopping so early, so this time I was determined to work as long as possible. I used a lot of my holiday though to reduce my hours from weeks 31-35 though.

I was very fortunate and had a easy pregnancy, it's different for everyone

I worked until 31 weeks too. Everyone in the building thought I was about to give birth any second as I was so huge. I had a long London commute and a responsible managerial job but I was very lucky in that I had a relatively easy pregnancy and an understanding company (that said they needed me so they had to be!). I'd try and take it as it comes if I were you. Could you not do some of the more physical aspects of your job? Mind you as you've already got two children working might be the most relaxing part of your life Grin

AtLongLast · 02/02/2011 01:43

I finished at 37+2 and the boys didn't arrive til 40+3 (7lb 11 & 7lb 13 so I was fairly big). I teach and thought my plans were unrealistic but I had a good pregnancy and was able to ease off a little for the last couple of weeks as I handed my duties over my to my cover.

I figured I could always go off sick / start leave early if it became necessary. It was a struggle towards the end & I deffo couldn't have worked another day!

As it is a physical job I would say no later than 32 weeks..it gets hard after that due to size and comfort issues. I think this was about the stage that people started to give me odd looks (OMG! don't let her waters break in my shop! and the like). Also beware of fixed tables and chairs..those last few weeks can really mean the difference between "squeezing in" and getting stuck! Good luck and best wishes.

chutneypig · 02/02/2011 06:51

I worked till 35 weeks but had a lot of flexibility about sitting/walking as I wanted. Also I didn't have to drive, which made a big difference.

Like others have said, I'd try and take it as it comes, see how everything goes.

OpheliaBumps · 02/02/2011 13:31

I had an office job and got to 31 weeks I think. I was huge, uncomfortable at my desk & insomniac, so decided to finish earlier than planned.

I did have 4 weeks of holiday saved, so it wasn't too bad finishing early.

LouMacca · 02/02/2011 14:00

Congratulations! I finished work at 26 weeks. It was my decision to finish that early because I was so tired and getting huge. I also had lots of holiday saved.

I delivered at 38 weeks so had 12 weeks chilling first and boy was I glad I had lots of rest beforehand!! Grin

My midwife pointed out to me quite early on that at 28 weeks I would carrying the equivalent of a fully grown singleton and so it dawned on me that I might be pretty glad to give up work then. I took 2 weeks hols and then officially on mat leave from 30weeks.

I'm so grateful to her, because I was very tired when I stopped work and the commute was really tough by then. My babies were born at 38 weeks and obviously, I can't say that was a direct result of finishing work early, but I feel that it can't have hurt. And I watched a lot of DVD box sets...

PS. Just noticed the comment about driving above. I didn't fit behind the wheel of my car (Golf) after 26 weeks and I couldn't drive DH's Mazda MX5 (obviously now an ex-car...) much much earlier than that!
