I have just got a trail pack of pocket reusables and like them, all so far. had one leak but it was because I put it on too loose. Trying bum genius, happy heiny, nature babies stuffables and fuzzi bunz...will let you know what i will go for once i've tested them out!

disposables for twins would cost me a fortune...far more than the cost of the birth to potty one size nappies!

my sister has the double city jogger and i have to say my nipper is a lot easier and nicer to push..and seems more hard wearing

Amberc · 31/01/2011 06:50

Hi all just marking my spot for now but will post properly later x

Jenzopos · 22/02/2011 11:50

I am now using Bum genius and i could not rate them highly enough! Working out great and having to do an extra wash every 2 days is fine as the laundry never stops anyway so i don't feel the impact. Don't feel put off thinking they are really time consuming..they are really not...no big boxes of nappies to buy and no bins to constantly empty! I would highly recommend getting a few and trying it.

got mine from www.twinkleontheweb.co.?uk/ as it seemed the cheapest for v3s

had a terrible 2 nights as the girls have colds..had to go back to swaddling and had to raise one end of the cot up slightly...worked a treat last night!

OP posts:
Amberc · 23/02/2011 15:32

Jenzopos my girls also have colds and I have not had any sleep for days. It got so bad I had to have a night nanny last night to recharge my batteries. My girls are only 6 weeks old so not mouth breathing yet - how old are they when they can? Will post that on the main forum too!

Using disposables here are reysables for me means lots of pooey nappies soaking in a vat! Is that not true?

This thread hasn't taken off much has it? I wonder why? Maybe everyone is too tired/busy...

strawberrylace · 23/02/2011 17:58

hello jenz & amber - i am still here lurking! i reckon its not so chatty here as frankly - when do we find the time for 5 mins to ourselves with twins??!! oh, those days of being pregnant were sooooo relaxing!
sorry that yours have all been poorly - not much fun at all. mine were bad before xmas - ended up in hospital in fact - but ok so far this year. were officially discharged from hospital by concultant last week - from their prem arrival - she was pleased with their progress, so that's great. they are exactly 4 months old today!
we went to a nice twins group today - good to meet other mums in the same situation. we go out to some sort of group most days, as i have to take my 3 yr old places or he does my head in as he is so talkative!
just off to run a bath for them all now, i am out to slimming world tonight so i need to get the twins bathed, changed and fed before i go.
hope the colds get better soon xx

sassy34264 · 23/02/2011 19:19

Hi. Long time no speak! I have finally moved into my new house (beginning of jan) and I have no Internet yet, so haven't been able to post . My babies are 6 months now and on solids, they were also christened a couple of weeks ago. Which was lovely, but a bitof a whirlwind. I'm also pregnant again........ Nutter, I hear you cry! Ha. So my life is about to get even harder.......oh well. Glad you are all well. X

Jenzopos · 23/02/2011 19:35

yes things are pretty manic!

I don't soak the nappies...I dry pail them in a bucket with an airtight lid and wash them every other day so they don't get smelly!

strawberrylace so glad yours are doing well and are now home :)

OP posts:
strawberrylace · 23/02/2011 22:15

sassy - omg pregnant again?! when are you due? good luck - though i think once you have had twins, then you realise that anything is possible to achieve. i just have to be more organised, and survive on less sleep...
jenz - i'm glad you are finding the reusables easy to do. my sis always used them, but i've never got my head round it, and use disposbles. i can see what you mean about saving money though - nappies for 2 is a big expense.
back from slimming world - another 2.5lb down, so that's 16.5lb lost so far in about a month, which i'm really pleased with. found i was eating too much chocolate, now cooking loads of healthy stews and feeling virtuous!

Jenzopos · 24/02/2011 11:18

worked out it would cost me about 3 grand in disposables over 3 years...as appose to 300 pounds on washables. I would recommend getting a few and giving it a try!

sassy you are crazy for sure! :)

I get fed up of people assuming cos i have twins i wont have any more! Would be nice to know what having 1 baby to look after is like lol!

Hi all

So true about being too tired to post, but I'm lurking occassionally. Mine turned 3 months old this week and we're in Algeria with DH's family to celebrate it. Any of you tried flying with twins yet? So much fun!! Today we sacrificed 2 sheep to bring them luck - hope it gets rid of their sniffles - the climate change has made them a bit bunged up at night. Think they still can't mouth breathe at this age Amber.

Congrats Sassy! I thought I might be pregnant again until my period came last week and I was scared shitless! Safely on the pill now and that's where I'm staying until they're at school at least! Just the one this time?

OK, time to go dress the up for more family meeting :D

holidays2010 · 25/02/2011 20:24

Hey girls, havent had my twins yet, due for induction on 4th March though!
Wanted to ask about disposable nappies, for those of you who bought them, how many did you buy in total and what have you bought?
im thinking of buying a birth to potty kit but will need extra equipment for twins so need some info from twin mums!

Jenzopos · 26/02/2011 10:04

I have 30 bum genius nappies (but think I need a few more)plus 8 bamboo boosters for night time. You will also need a bucket with an airtight lid as i wash them every other day plus laundry nets to line the buckets. You will need a wet bag too to keep the soiled ones in when out and about. I would highly recommend trying washable wipes too...you can buy them but i bought a cheap fleece and cut it up as the premade ones can be pricy.

I would suggest gear wise to skip the baby bath and use a washing up bowl while tiny and once they enjoy baths put them in bath supports in the big bath...my girls love it as they both get to have a good splash together!

I use birth-4 combination seats for the car and the girls still share a cot (though they will have to go in their own room soon..only room for 1 cot in the bedroom!)

2 basic baby bouncers are a must (I had the ones that swing and have found the basic bouncers much better than the fancy ones)

Ordered a second over the door bouncer...can't wait to see how they take to both being in a bouncer at the same time!

OP posts:
Jenzopos · 26/02/2011 10:04

the bum genius nappies fit from about 9lbs so i used disposables until they were big enough

OP posts:
holidays2010 · 26/02/2011 20:38

Thanks Jenz! I spoke to OH about it and he dismissed the whole thing, said i'll always end up using disposables so no point but i 'could' buy a few reusables if i wanted!!
His lack of support has pissed me off and i'm more determined to buy reusable now and show him he's wrong.
The cost of disposables is what worries me but he reckons he'll always have money so doesnt care... :/

Jenzopos · 26/02/2011 23:26

it's not just the money...disposables take years to decompose..20 years or more!

OP posts:
smokeybacon · 27/02/2011 12:50

jenzopos am in awe of you using disposables with twins. The washing............
However I am with you on the biodegradable stand point and have felt guilty for using pampers on the DTs since they were born. I am now using Nature Boy and Girl as they are nearly totall biodegradable. They are a bit more expensive, but easier on the conscience!

We have two Chicco bouncers that are adjustable and they are fantastic. They can be lie flat so we could use them from newborm and they have a padded cushion for comfort. Highly recommend these!

The other things that are invaluable are the bath supports so you can stick em in the bath and be hands free and keep them in for longer than if you were just holding them.

OMG sassy pregnant? Congratulations!! There's no point in denying it will be hard but you will reap the rewards in the years to come with them all being so close. What will the age gap be? We have 18 months between DS2 and the DTs. Its hard work but I think they will also be good pals soon.

sassy34264 · 27/02/2011 14:09

Hi. The Age gap will be 15/16 mths. I pretty sure it's only 1. The difference is startling. Barely any morning sickness, no weight gain, no ligament pains. Had horrendous morning sickness, gained 8 pounds and had 2 go the hospital cos I thought it was eptopic, I was getting such sharp pains and I was 5 weeks by the scan-same as now. I don't think god can give me the same pregnancy again- it would be too cruel. Smile
Was telling dp that it will be ok,cos whether it's a girl or a boy, we have everything, so won't cost much. Then realised we need a sliding door car and a bigger house now. Oops.
I've not had an official date yet, bit my reckoning is last week in oct.

holidays2010 · 27/02/2011 18:06

I just realised ive forgotten what happens after birth in terms of health visitor visits and getting that red book etc, so what can i expect?
i like to know - i dont like the unknown! :)

smokeybacon · 27/02/2011 19:33

Awww sassy they will all be such pals. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy the pregnancy a bit more as well. I pretty much hated every moment of the twin pregnancy. One is soooooooo much easier!

holidays I expect every area is different in terms of post natal care, so I can only tell you what we get here and that wasn't an awful much more than a singleton. However, I know that there was a twin mum in our area who asked for lots of help

Jenzopos · 27/02/2011 19:52

Its only actually an extra load every other day...I barely notice it with all the other washing!

I got given my red book when leaving hospital...had the midwife at first and then the health visitor...not had any help but maybe its my own fault for making it appear like i'm finding it easy! (which I'm not)

Pregnancy (apart from the initial morning sickness) for me was fine..no problems at all....except getting so big i could hardly walk!..but then again mine were whoppers!

OP posts:
Swazzee · 28/02/2011 11:21

I had a visit from my HV about a week after I came out of hospital and she gave me the red books then. Other than that, 2 visits from midwives in the first fortnight, 2 visits from HV in the follwing fortnight and now to baby clinic whenever I choose.

Jenz - I'm exactly the same - always telling the HVs how well I'm doing and then realising afterwards that perhaps I should be asking for more help! Anyway, living with my mum now and DH not working so I am getting plenty of help.

And my pregnancy was pretty much a breeze from start to finish (apart from the reflux!)- not even morning sickness. Making up for it now though - RSI in both wrists and elbows, my back and shoulders so sore that some days I feel I can't get out of bed, and stiff ankles and knees.

Last day of our holiday in Algeria today. We've all got colds and sore throats. Not looking forward to the flight and coach ride home tomorrow :(

smokeybacon · 28/02/2011 13:30

It's pretty quiet on here. Should we crash the other twin baby thread? Lavita is there ( just had a quick peak). What do you think?

Tortington · 28/02/2011 13:33

hello fellow twin mums

i can't contain my excitement any longer

my twins are eighteen tomorrow and that you will understand the relief that they made it that far without me killing them!
