Where do i need to look for buying cots and buggies etc.... for twins?

Are there any specific websites that are good? or shops?

We went into Mothercare the other day and there were no double buggies suitable for new borns!Hmm it was a small mothercare.

And do i need to buy a double cot? is there such a thing or is a single one big enough?

Any advice please..x Smilethanks.

Hi hippy3

There is a site called twinsuk which has some unusual stuff like a double cot, and some very practical stuff like an extra large playmat. Also take a look at Tamba's site as they have quite a few buying guides I think (I'd recommend joining Tamba even if just for the first year).

I toyed with the idea of the double cot but decided against it for space reasons and I am glad I did as I split our twins up at night when they were 3 months old, as I found they disturbed each other too much! Initially we put them head to head in one of the cots but it wasn't long before they outgrew this and so went into their own single cots.

In terms of buggies, there aren't as many to choose from but John Lewis had a few (I think the main ones are the iCandy peach blossom twin/the OutnAbout/Mclaren/Jane/Hauck). Its worth looking on eBay too once you know roughly what you want. If you want the babies to lie flat from birth though you are slightly limited as although many of the buggies say they are suitable from birth they do not fully recline. We went for the iCandy which is brilliant for town and on paths around our village but it is expensive and in fact we only used the carrycots for about 4 months as the babies wanted to sit up and look around before too long. We were also lucky enough that someone imported a babyjogger performance for us as we do a lot of off roading and although the iCandy is good, it can't cope with really rough terrain.

Anyway, happy hunting. Thank god for the internet is all I can say!

Yes would definitely second the buying two cots, as even though it may seem cute to put them together, you may find that they actually wake each other up quite a bit! As far as buggies are concerned, I bought a Mclaren initially (brand new)as it was suitable for newborns. However, in retrospect, wished i had bought it second hand, as when the girls were 9months i bought a Phil & Teds tandem, and never looked back - its so light and narrow. Other than that, i didnt find that most twin sites on the internet were any more helpful than normal ones really, or any cheaper. Kiddicare is quite good for buggies etc, as is ebay. Keep your eye out for sales, even at this early stage - we got our cots on Mamas and papas for a fraction of the price as they were end of season designs!
Hope that helps:)

where are you hippy? there might be stores nearby that do lots of double buggies, it is really good to get a look at them. I found that a small independent shop actually had more than mothercare & are better at advice, give the ones around you a ring and see what they've got. The more you look at buggies, the more you get a sense of what's for you. Bear in mind that many twin mums have 2 buggies, one for walking/offroading & one lightweight for the car (same as singleton mums then!). Which makes buying 2nd hand even more appealing.

If you know where the local twin mum group meets you could go along, fantastic for seeing lots of buggies in one place & people happy to answer questions.
I found a single cot for both was big enough for the first 6 months, but we had a 2nd in reserve for when we separated them. My two were 39+ weeks and good sizes as well.
Kiddicare is 2nd to none really for pricing & availability, they have videos of the buggies which are great. TwinsUk was good to get an idea of what's available.

EBAY!!!!!!!!!

Got to a big Mothercare, try everything out, then get it at a fraction of the price on Ebay!

Or, if you're a TAMBA member, go through one of their discounted sites if you want to buy new
