Potty training twin girls - any advice?

Hi, I am currently potty training my twin daughters who are two years 8 months. They have started really well, and happily do their wees in the potty without help and on the loo if i put them on, and pull up their own trousers and so on. BUT! When it comes to the poos we seem to have an issue. They have done a few in the potty and when that happens they have had claps and lots of attention, but its been very hit and miss. Mainly they wait until nap time or bedtime in the evening for their nappy and then do it within half hour of nappy being on. Does anyone have advice, am i doing something wrong? Any tips or wisdom to share? Not sure if this is just a twin thing, as i only have them and nothing to compare to! Advice appreciated, thanks:)

We have had the same problem sort of with all my 3 dc, twins now aged 3 and eldest now 7.

It was strange cos most advice I could find and friends all said poos easy came first then wees were harder for them to get.

We are still having probs with one twin, my little boy, but then he has always been slower at learning everything, eating, walking scooting but I have a little advice based on the my two girls....

It just seemed to take them a while to understand and control their bottoms, so like most problems time does fix it. But I know all to well when u are cleaning up poo time seems to drag! The only othe bit of advice I can say is that we tried 'backing off' on the encouragement. It sounds crazy but once you are sure that they know Definately waht they should do, reducing the pressure can help. It may not be suitable in yr case as mine were a little olders but sometimes presssure over something they just have not mastered yet can not make them more moivated just fed up with the whole thing.

Good luck, its a new stage for them and sometimes potty training drags. They will soon see that doing a poo in the right place is simply easier than in their nappies and having to be cleaned up.
Having had a singleton I can tell u potty training two is a hard stage, one is wearing enough but two, it os v hard not to get v down about it.
Sorry I have no cast iron golden tips tho!

Hi

i have recently potty trained my twin girls at age 2 and 8 months!!

My answere - skittles!! I bought a big packet and for every wee they did on the toilet they got one, and for every pooh they did on the toilet, they got 2.

Yes I spent alot of time in the toilet after they had done the tiniest wee possible but it really did work for them. And I had the empty packet to show them when they had all gone and they just accepted there were none left and carried on using the loo. It took 3 days to get them sorted!

My kids rarely get sweets, and I did make sure they cleaned their teeth really well for those few days but a little bribery, in their case, went a really long way!!

Good luck with it, my first boy had the poo issue and took ages to master poo's in the toilet, but got there in the end.

Thank you for both of your stories and help;I think that backing off is certainly the best idea, as try as I might I do get worked up if they poo in their nappy within minutes of putting it on (happened last night!). Logically I know its not a big deal, and not to make a fuss but its really hard when its been a long day. I must try and be more relaxed though, as they are doing so well with the wees! I had to smile at other advice I had read elsewhere about a story to tell your kids whilst sitting on the potty about a poo going to pooland to meet his friends...ha ha, the things we tell them!! thanks again:)
