Is this a nice thing or an odd thing to do?

My friend has just had twins (already has a 20month old) and is breastfeeding and her DH went back to work this week. Unfortunatly I have a hacking cough which I don't want to pass on so can't be much practical use but was thinking of making a lasgna and taking it round as that's what all the books suggest new mothers like (food rather than lasagna specifically!). I've always thought it an odd 50s thing to do but want to help in any way I can.

So. Odd thing or nice thing?

Nice. I did it for a couple of friends of mine (not lasgna, beef and veg pie and apple crumble) when their DHs went back to work.

I have a friend who believes that when you go to visit a new baby there is "no entry without pie".

Even now as the working mum of a 2 year old, I am grateful for any food cooked for me and my family.

Nice and useful I would say. I often didn't manage to feed myself with a newborn singleton.

Think its a lovely idea.

Aw that's lovely. What a good friend you are Smile Pie etc also always welcome in this house and I reckon it'll be very gratefully received by your friend.

smokeybacon · 05/10/2010 09:18

Lovely idea. Could you make me one too when Ihave my twins in just over 5 weeks time please?

StickChildrenThree · 05/10/2010 09:21

I think it would be very gratefully received and from experience, a few toddler portions for the freezer would be brilliant. My dd1 was 17months when dts were born and the hardest part of the day was finding time to cook her proper meals!

It's beyond nice, it's absolutely wonderful! A friend did this for me when my twins arrived, and I appreciated it sooooo much.

Thanks for your replies, I thought I was being odd but have taken round a lasgna and she seemed really pleased. Now just got to hope it doesn't give them food poisoning!)

Definitely nice- I clearly remember the huge effort it was to prepare food for myself. And knowing that I had to, in order to make milk.

kathryn2804 · 08/10/2010 23:28

Definitely. Food was the most useful thing for us!

FetchezLaVache · 08/10/2010 23:32

A very, very nice thing to do. We were brought several dinners when DS was born (one friend brought round a roast chicken and all the trimmings inc gravy- I could have snogged her right then and there) and they were all very, very gratefully received.

tigerbear · 08/10/2010 23:35

Very nice thing to do! I feel awful though - DH and i went to a friends house for lunch (they've just had DD1) last week and we didn't take them anything - THEY made US lunch. Does that make us Very Bad Friends? :)

ZuzuandZara · 10/10/2010 23:37

Brilliant. Take her ten lasagnes. Fill her freezer with food that can be eaten with one hand.
