How do you get twins in and out of the car??

Hi,

I've just got the next stage car seats for my 14 month old twins. We live in a flat with stairs down to the street and on-street parking. I used to just carry them out to the car in their baby carriers but now not sure how to get them safely in and out of the car. They can both walk. I was thinking carrying them downstairs together and holding one on reins while I buckle the other one in but not sure it'll work.

I don't know if I'm just being dim but if anyone could tell me how they do it, I'd be very grateful!

I stick one on the front seat and close the door while I put the other into his seat.

I can't believe you've managed to carry them in their car seats until now!!

I would do similar to rattling, but stand one in the footwell by their seat as I have the child locks on the rear doors (my dd1 learnt how to open a car door pretty quickly!).

Ooh that's clever, hadn't thought of that! I take them out of the house one at a time, unless my DH is there to help.

I think I'll use the rear footwell approach as well (my two are terrors for pressing buttons and will soon work out how to open the front doors).

i don't have twins but do have similar issues with my toddler and baby!
i usually sit the toddler into his car seat and shut the door, then strap baby in, then go back round and strap toddler in
have also been known to shut one or the other in the boot!!! (it is a big estate btw lol)

May not work for you as you're in a flat but I take mine out in their pram so they're both safely strapped in until I'm ready to get them each in the car. I then put the pram in the boot and use it wherever we're going.

Thanks. I think I'll give the footwell plan a go. Reins was a bit of a faff. Lol at you shutting them in the boot, thisisyesterday Smile

I would spend a lot of time teaching them to come down the stairs on their own, could be time while spent as you wont be able to carry both for long. have them on reins or backpacks and walk them to the car and have them climb into the foot-well then onto the back seat and then into their seat and then strap them in. Well you can aim for that but until they have grown enough to do that lift them from the foot well. Make sure the child locks are on the doors.

If you can't park outside you house I would just use the pushchair to get them to the car it can be easier as you can put the bag on it. I often found it easier when I was parked a little way away from thing so I got the buggy out
