Twin mums, help me pack my hospital bag!

I know this is done to death on the pg and ante natal boards, and I have had 2 babies (at different times!) before but I am at an absolute loss as to what to do about my hosptial bag.

I am 30+5 so perhaps should be getting stuff together, so on my shopping list so far is:

Maternity pads (lots of)
Cheap big pants, prob from Asda

And thats it!

If the twins decide to put in an appearance now, then I'm thinking they prob won't need anything as they will go to special care at this point.

I could get some toiletries together, but what else??

hello! My boys turn 18 months tomorrow so this is a hazy memory but here is what I remember needing...

FOOD! (I was so hungry immediately and once feeding started I realised hospital food wasn't going to cut it. I had loads of brownies and flapjacks etc and bottled water. Also take some chocs for the nurses - I'm not above bribery).
Nappies - the newborn ones, hospital didn't provide any.
Dettol wipes for the bathroom (I wish I was exaggerating)
Lots of tiny baby vests and baby gros.
I took nice toiletries, it's amazing that first shower!
Make sure your nighties are really soft and open at the front, I took 2 plus a lightweight dressing gown/cardi thing
Slippers - if you have a c section you need to wear awful stockings so flip flops won't work
I took a blanket for each baby, nothing fancy in case they got lost
Pen & paper so you can record any notes of times they slept / fed etc. Trust me, you won't remember from one hour to the next!

Also there can be a fair bit of waiting around so put in a few trashy mags to kill some time.

I took my feeding cushion but complete waste of time as none of nurses could help with tandem feeding and the angle of bed etc. made it impossible. Save it for your sofa back home.

Hope this helps - and good luck!

Nappies and cotton wool (wipes are discouraged for newborns), slippers, snacks (enough for you and DH), juice/water, camera, ipod, mobile phone, hair scrunchy (if you've got long hair).

One good tip I had was to take two plastic bags, into each put a nappy, vest, babygro, hat, scratch mitts, and put these 2 bags right at the top of your hospital bag. Then when the babies arrive and your DH is asked to get some clothes for them he won't turn the whole bag inside out trying to find things.

Good luck!

Great tip about the two plastic bags, Aging. My tip would be to take, in terms of stuff for the babies, a limited amount to the hospital, but to leave a big pile in a safe place at home (my safe place was the airing cupboard) and instruct your dp to bring in as necessary. The space around hospital beds is very limited IME and there just wasn't room for all the clothes and nappies two babies need.

Do you know yet if you'll be having a C-section? Arnica tablets are supposed to be good, to help with bruising. You'll also need lots to drink and lots and lots of snacks.

Thanks ladies. Food for thought. Perhaps today I will manage to get the bag out of the loft!
