c-sections

Hi all, I had an emergency c-section with my DS (now 2.3). Does this mean I will be more than likely to need a c-section again with twins? If I could have a natural birth I would as it took me so long to recover last time but it seems the stats are against me.

I did it the other way round, c-section for twins and vbac for my singleton afterwards. I think there's someone on Tamba who's been allowed to try so would be worth talking to your consultants.

I spoke to him today and he said that as I'd had a c-section before 90% of consultants would say another c-section but he is willing to wait and see until about 32/34 weeks

Hi Amber, I had a very similar situation to you. I fought to be allowed a natural birth with my dts (born 2 years after ds1). I changed consultant/hospital at 20 weeks - one reason being that the first consultant wanted to book me in for c-section as soon as we found out I was pregnant with twins. I had long discussions about risks, my reasons, emotions etc. with the second consultant who agreed there was no reason for me not to have a natural birth as long as me and the babies were showing no problems at all. My c-section for ds1 was because he was in distress early in the labour, they never worked out why so there was no specific reason why I shouldn't birth naturally.
32/34 weeks is still early to be making a decision I think.

Unfortunately one of the boys turned the wrong way up in the 2 or 3 days before the birth (36w 6 days) so I ended up having a c-section. for some reason my recovery was much better than with my singleton. I gave a list of my wishes to the consultant in the case that I did have to have a cs(for example bringing the babies to me before whisking them off to check theme etc.), maybe that somehow helpe.

Good luck and I wish you a comfortable end to your pregnancy, a wonderful birth and loads of happiness with your beautiful twins.

Thanks very much! It seems I may have Gestational diabetes now so I think that's yet another tick on the c section box. Hey ho x

I had a VBAC with twins. One was breech until quite late on too and nobody should bat an eyelid if you are sure in yourself that is what you want. If your consultant is not confident in your wishes then change consultants - like GoingLoopy that's what I did.

Recovering from a section with 2 newborns and a toddler would be my idea of merry hell tbh, particularly if you intend to breastfeed but if you do decide that it is what you want then make sure you have loads of support at home in the first 6 weeks. Good luck x

I had a planned section and my recovery was much quicker and less painful than a friend's who'd had an emergency section.

I honestly do think a planned section is easier to recover from, as you haven't had all the effort of labour beforehand, your muscles haven't been stretched and strained, so it's just the op itself you need to recover from.

You shouldn't be pushed into a decision yet though, I was only asked at about 37 weeks (DTs were born at 38 + 1), when they were both breech.

Good luck!
