Flying with twins

Hello,

Does anyone have much experience of flying with twins? Ours will be 1yr and 1 month and we are flying to the continent and back.

Unfortunately our journey involves a change at a hub - but it couldn't be avoided.

We have booked flights during reasonable daytime hours and also we have booked with a flag carrier rather than a budget outfit, so I am hoping they will be slightly more tolerant and helpful - though this may be wishful thinking.

Anyway, any tips and experiences will be gladly received!

We flew with our DTs last week. They're 11 months and it was a 2hour flight to the continent (no change though).

We took plenty of snacks and new small toys to distract them.
DTS was a dream, looked out of the window, ate some food, had a play with the inflight magazine and snuggled on my knee.

DTD was a nightmare, didn't like sitting still, wanted to play with the window blind thing, cried, tantrumed, banged her head etc.
A combination of raisins and endless signing finally calmed her down.

We flew mid afternoon which really helped, and made sure they had dummies during the flight which I'm convinced helped their ears to pop as there was no pain/crying on take off or landing.

We also used lightweight Maclarens (bought off ebay) as you can push these right up to the plane, to minimise how long you have to carry them for.

Thanks agingmum, that's a big help.

Can you only use the lightweight buggies to get up to the plane then?

I think it has to be an umbrella fold buggy, might be worth checking with your airline. We've got an icandy pear and that's way too big and unwieldy for an airport, so we bought the Maclarens. We also use the lightweight ones for holidays in the UK, when both meand DH are there to push one buggy each. They take up much less space in the boot of car, leaving more room for toys, nappies etc.

you can take small buggies pushchairs up to the plane. You then fold them and are told to leave them at the bottom of the steps. It then depends on the airport at the other end when you get them back sometime at the bottom of the steps sometimes not until the baggage reclaim you will need to check. Enjoy your trip
