Suntanning in Mixed Race Children?

Reading on the other thread about suncream & the baby

QueenofQuotes says

"What really irks me is the comments and looks I get from some people who I see reguarly - especially this summer as the boys have become visibly 'darker'. They assume that they're not wearing sun lotion and that they're getting 'tanned' "

What I want to know is why, when DD gets brown arms & legs, does the rest of her body go brown..all of it. Even the bits that get no sun.

And she never gets strap marks???How and why does this happen?

I either use the roll on SPF25, or the suncream wipes which are SPF15

So about a 20 is OK....on one hand I have people telling me not to bother using sun cream and on the other I have "YOU MUST USE A 50+ OR ELSE" so I'm quite confused

I've not had a problem using the SPF15 with my two DS's (20months and nearly 5yrs) and they spend a LOT of time out in the garden.

I'm blonde, light skinned and can burn easily - but again I've not burned with the SPF15 avon sunwipes.

Mixed race, and black, skinned children (and adults) do have more natural protection from the sun so I'd say SPF20 would be fine for them.

My likkle ds was very white looking, but his legs, face and hands have caught the sun already and i keep him in the shade alot (being only 3 months!)
He now looks the same colour as me (white sun queen!), but next to white babies you can tell he's mixed.
I'll join you in the bragging too!

I think I use a 15 on them. Could be 20. I go between the two.

DS aquires a two-tone effect - I can see where his trunks were.
He is half asian, and we use factor 15 - but I tend to keep him in v lightweight long-sleeved shirts etc in strong sun - like Indian cotton 'kurtas'.

DS uses factor 15 on his bald/shaved heasd, too, or he gets burnt.
