Where can guests find affordable Indian wedding outfits for multiple events?

didn't know what topic to put this under!

I am having an Indian wedding in India fully paid for by my in-laws which comes with strings attached that I am fine with (just have to do it their way). Without this there wouldn't really be a wedding.

(it's costing us about £8k including six return flights to India- were expected to come for shopping, engagement party, etc) we didn't really think about this and its really the max we can pay.

We didn't expect everyone to come but actually all my British friends are really excited to come and fully embrace the experience but an issue is clothing.

There are 34 British friends invited and we expect at least 21 will come. They see it as a once in a lifetime experience. Mix of men and women.

They will all be expected to wear Indian attire (As part of the strings attached).

Proper outfits can be into the hundreds of pounds and they will need multiple for different functions.

It is not affordable for us to pay for anyones outfits.

I have 6 bridesmaids- my sisters and best friends. I feel the need to buy them an outfit and I am looking for budget lehengas max £50 each including postage.

I know these aren't proper lehengas but it's what we can afford.

DP has 7 groomsman he's equally buying an outfit for.

I also need to direct them to websites where they can get them. I've already sent them to second hand places.

Where can we get budget outfits from that are good enough?

It's not an option to ask in-laws to contribute to these and we are contributing our max with our bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Do you know a good seamstress? My DD went to her bf wedding and needed several outfits, she choose the fabric and got it made by a seamstress and was able to mix and match several things. This worked out alot cheaper than buying. One of the other friends went to Camden market but was a few years ago. The jewellery they all swapped with each other over the event.

CraftyNavySeal · Today 15:23

Could they get the outfits there? If people come a few days before they could all go to a mall or somewhere you can get a good deal on outfits for 20 people at once.

HushTheNoise · Today 15:24

Leicester? But maybe they could get things made in India, or you could take out their measurements and organise to get things made there. Honestly, they shouldn't need multiple outfits, buying one is lovely but the in laws shouldn't expect guests to supply several outfits. I have been to a couple of Indian weddings in this country as my husband's family is Indian and I just had a basic Punjabi suit my fil brought back from India.

The wedding is 4 days and it wouldn't be seen as presentable to wear the same outfits. The inlaws have made it clear everyone needs to be presentable.

The idea of getting them out there has been brought up but most guests want the peace of mind that they have them ready and BIL says they're not cheap out there.

I do not know a seamstress, but I doubt a dress will come to under £50 with one

I think second hand is going to be your only option for lehengas at that price point. Otherwise could they wear sarees instead? Andaaz has some in budget. I bought my DH a couple of nice kurta pajama outfits from there last year for under £50 as well.

Loads of worn once, very good condition stuff on Vinted. Recently I got a £300 lehgha for £90. I then sold it on for £50 (so worn twice). There’s accounts with many outfits so could make an offer on a bundle.

Should have included a link to Andaaz sorry: https://www.andaazfashion.co.uk/womens/sarees?product_list_order=price&product_list_dir=asc
I do have a nice lehenga from there but they are out of budget. Salwar kameez are a cheaper option for the other events as well

Alouest · Today 16:18

Would any of these be appropriate? The site seems to have good prices.

Yep! This is where I get my Diwali outfits 😆

Vinted definitely a good call! Look at this from random search!

Your best option would be to get sarees and get a tailor to stitch them so they are like a skirt and easy to wear.

Have a look at Mirraw, there’s some lovely sarees on there for about £30ish and they also do stitching.

Karmakamelion · Today 18:10

Vinted is your best bet. Maybe get a theme colour rather than matchy

Worriedmrs · Today 18:14

India nowadays have rent stores with huge collections of traditional wear. Not sure if you can ask your in-laws but they might know a local stores.
Most stores have instagram accounts.

carasngs · Today 18:18

In laws will buy expensive ones then send us the bill, they don't seem to grasp budget!

I want to get the bridesmaids sorted before india because it's my responsibility and I don't want an unexpected bill if it doesn't work out and peace of mind.

I will need a site. Has anyone tried Mirraw and can vouch for quality?

Keep trying Vinted people sell matching bridesmaids sets. Again worn once for an event. Here’s a listing for three lehenghas size 10/12/16. Most outfits are “free size” and will have extra material inside to make bigger. https://www.vinted.co.uk/items/6280070926-asian-party-wear

With your brief on price and expectations I would pick a colour and buy one on Vinted, then use the Vinted image search to find more of that colour as similar as possible. The one screen shot up thread is old fashioned and cheaper looking - fine for a guest but not a bridesmaid .

HereForTheFreeLunch · Today 19:41

I have used this once - https://mobile.mirraw.com/

They have buy-1 get three free offers - among others.
I had sarees and salwar kurtas stitched. The stitching was good. The cheaper end will have cheap polyester. Filter on material and then sort on price.
Overall I bought outfits for 2 people for wedding functions and was happy with what we got.

Other one is Myntra I think but never used.
