British Biracial (black and white) family living in the UK - the news & MSM is terrifying me. I’m terrified my children will experience implicit and explicit abuse just because of their ethnicity. I want them to grow up in an environment that sees them as an equal and worthy member of society. Anything less than that I cannot comprehend.

It feels and is being portrayed that Britain is headed toward the horrors of the 80s. Do we need to make plans to move abroad?

Anyone else biracial, experiencing the same concerns?

Am I overreacting?

I just want my loved ones to be safe.

I am sending you love and strength, and peace. You are not alone in these feelings.

I’m mixed race and so are my children , and we live in a village with only about three other non-white families. There are flags tied to every lamppost, and I’m not exaggerating. Still, I remind myself that most racism exists online people rarely say anything to your face. Don’t let social media scare you; it just makes things seem ten times worse than they are in real life. Because, really, what sane person dislikes someone just for having a natural tan? It’s losers who want to blame others for how crap their own lives turned out. And I won’t be made small to make them feel big

YANBU OP. I was driving through one of those heavy-flag areas the other day with my mixed heritage baby son and felt worried for him and his future. That said, we do live in a very diverse city and my non-white family members aren't worried. Absolutely puts me off moving any further out though and I'm feeling better seeing this spike in support for the Green party. For a while it felt like Reform was taking over and there was a vacuum everywhere else. Hope you're okay

I live in area that is completely white. My eldest is the only black child in her year group of 3 classes. A few high streets over, we have England flags and whatever.

The stories in the news do scare me, as much as the concerns are valid, it only takes a few crazies to harm other people and there is always a worry that your child might be targeted.

But you also can’t live in perpetual fear. In my area, people are so nice and friendly, we’ve never felt unwelcome despite clearly being the odd ones out.

What’s it like where you are?

I think making plans to move abroad is a bit extreme regardless, because these issues can be anywhere. If people are genuinely hostile, it is worth relocating to another area though.

People made borders , not God or the planet earth, we all belong on this planet, while we are here to do our best and care for nature and each other. Some of it tribalism.. I find many British people have relatives or ancestry from overseas, or have migrated from one part to another. I have a strong Irish accent, which although we have peace now, can stir up painful memories related to our dual history for many here. . All you can do, is meet 1 person at a time…
