sickle cell trait

hi when i had my daughter 13 years ago i was told she had sickle cell trait, it was just a letter and no follow up information or support. i was a young mum i did look into it at the time but seemed it would not really have any problems unless my daughter was to have a child with someone who also had the trait so i didn't really think much more about it. i have 3 other children now all same father as her but only she has the trait, is this a common? i've looked into it more but not coming up with much other than the odds if both parents have the trait. has anyone else got one child with the trait and other children that don't have it?

Please speak to a medical professional about this diagnosis. If your daughter with sickle cell trait eventually has a child with someone who also has the trait, or has sickle cell anemia or another related condition like thalassemia, her child could have a serious genetic medical condition that can cause a lifetime of complications. The sooner you and your daughter learn and understand the implications of this diagnosis, the better so she can make informed choices as an adult. You and your partner should also be screened so you know which of you is the carrier.

Following for interest sac my ds has sickle cell trait but dd hasn’t. Both same parents

The sickle cell trait is caused by a recession allele. If both parents have the allele (but do not have the disease) there is 25% chance of having a child with suckle cell anemia and 50% chance having a child which has the allele (so is a carrier).

Yes, please do this just so you understand the possible implications for your dad, OP (and you can get all the answers to your questions!).
Our DS has the trait and the doctor was very clear on the importance of letting him know (when older) about the risk of future children having the disease. Edit: Sorry, sounds like you already know this - but I’d still chat to a dr about it, they can explain how one child has the trait and not the other, and show you the chances of it occurring if you were to have another baby.
