Mongolian blue spot

Hi, this is related to the other thread re Monglolian blue spots. Does anyone know if they disappear over time? My baby has some on her bum but her left knee is also covered. I'm just wondering if the one on her knee will always be there.

ds2's entire bum was covered when he was a baby, it looked awful. He also had one on his arm and his wrist. The big one on his bum has faded over the years and you can't really see it unless you stare (and who would?), but the little ones on his arm and wrist are still very visible.

Hi, my DS had a large blue one which covered his right bottom cheek and lower back and looked like a bruise, we were once even accused of smacking him !!
He's now 4 and its hardly noticeable.

Kewcumber · 07/04/2008 13:26

yes they normally fade and are generally gone by the time they are teenagers.

DT2 still has his and he's 4 now. I think one of mine had theirs until aged 5.

Mine's gone now. Can't remember when it disappeared - never liked looking at my bum in the mirro

Interesting thread, we just realised the bruise on DS2's coxix was this.. I had be wondering how he could keep bruising his lower back with his huge nappies on! (doh!)

it is quite faint.. although good to hear that it should fade over time.

Great to see this thread! My ds has a huge on his bum, then they trickle up his back, he is 18mths now and it has faded already a bit, he has one on his wrist that hasnt faded, i have to explain to people that it is not a bruise!!

wasabipeanut · 29/05/2008 11:25

I know a baby who has these and according to his mum it should be noted on medical records specifically because it is too easy to mistake them for bruises.

savoycabbage · 29/05/2008 11:28

My 4 year olds has gone now and my 20 month old has one on her bum and then it kind of dots up her spine like we have been beating her with a broom handle! I took a photo of it when she was a baby in case it was ever thought to be from a good beating as it really does look like it.

tammybear · 29/05/2008 11:29

My DD has one when she was born. The midwife told me that some doctors have accused parents of hitting their children because of these, which scared the living daylights out of me lol. But it's gone now, she's 5, but it has been gone for a couple of years, not sure when exactly as it was on her bum so wasn't too noticeable lol.

northernrefugee39 · 29/05/2008 12:10

Two of mime had them, at the base of their spines, and yes they really look like bruises. They went at about three I think.
