Im trying to do some home schooling and explain pancake day.

So UK has Shrove Tuesday on 16 Feb this year

So I know in France they call it Fat Tuesday but is that the same as "La Chandeleur" or is it separate?

I read that La Chandeleur is considered the last cycle of the Christmas celebration so not really anything to do with pancake day???

I'm not French, but isn't La Chandeleur the same as our Candlemas, the traditional feast for celebrating the purification of the Virgin Mary? Though they do eat crepes. The difference between that and Mardi Gras is that La Chandeleur like other saints' feasts is on a set date (2 February) whereas Mardi Gras (Shrove Tuesday) connects to Easter so is a moveable feast

Yes Chandeleur and Mardi Gras are two different things and it is for Chandeleur we eat crèpes. You make the crèpe jump with your right hand and hold a coin in your left hand. Then you fold up the crepe with the coin inside and put it on top of a cupboard, this brings prosperity.
If you are single and can make the crèpe jump 6 times without dropping it, you will marry in the year.
Of course you can eat crèpes when you like.
