Mixed British/African newborn hair care

Hi,

My baby is 2 months old and she is mixed race (Black African and White British).
I am just wondering how to look after her hair. Her hair curls up when washed (like in the photo), then is wavy/straight when it's dry.

What products should I be using?
How often do I need to wash her hair?

My children are mixed race British and jamaican and their hair was exactly the same as your babys.
I tried some hair oil but didn't think it was necessary and it just ruined the pram liner, cot sheet etc.
While it was still that texture I just left it with no products, washed it every time they bathed.
Their hair texture changed and became thick afro hair texture and that is when I used products in it. I used products aimed at children when they were babies but then switched to different ones. I like cantu products and also shea butter based products.
It was definitely trial and error trying to find products, if you have an afro hair supply shop near you I recommend going in there and having a look.

I would just use a little coconut oil in the hair. I would avoid anything else unless really needed. I've been using coconut oil in my own mixed-race hair for the past couple of years and it's been great.

@AvoidingRealHumans

Thank you! That helps. I think I will just leave it for now and wait for it to get thicker.
I use cantu products on my hair and aunt Jackies x

@Velocity

I had tried to use a very small amount of coconut oil, and it just made her hair greasy.

I have then tried to use coconut oil before I wash her hair, and once I've washed it, her hair just doesn't smell right x

My baby girl is the same age, the same mix and her hair is nearly identical! We just use a little coconut oil after her bath or olive oil as she has a little cradle cap.
