Those who know Punjabi language please help

Can somebody please tell me if the word "Karla" and "gora" are discriminatory terms in the punjabi language? As in referring to a black man and a white man. Pakistanis seem to use these terms a lot and I'm just interested

No they are not. Just words to describe those people. Kala means black. So it’s like saying a black man.

As with anything, context is everything. It’s true that they’re ‘descriptors’ but people use them to talk about Asian skin tone too so that kala (dark) skin is often looked down on where as gora (fair) skin is seen as wonderful. Also it’s why people are using those words- ‘who are you talking about’ ‘the black man/ kala’ no problem.

They're not in themselves but it's all about context and tone... and if they're meant as derogatory
